King Shocks QUESTION!

I have a 2021 4runner with KDSS. I'm able to get my hands on a set of King front coilover shocks that are NON-KDSS.

Are there minimal modifications to make this fit or is this an entirely different shock assembly not just reservoir mounts or brackets etc. in differences. Please let me know!! The part # is 25001-278.

Could be wrong, but I always thought it’s the orientation of the reservoirs

my icon reservoirs had to be mounted using the non-existant threaded swaybar mounts. the holes for the sway bar mount are there but they are just holes, no threads. I drilled them out abit bigger and used rivnuts.

you also have to cut off a bracket covering the KDSS lines on one side, not a big deal because it gets covered reservoir bracket afterwards.

Thank you guys for all your responses! I will wait to order the correct ones then; sounds like it's too much hassle to fabricate to make it work.

think most shops are out of stock on king shocks and backorder is over 12 weeks from what i last read on some other forums.

I ordered during Black Friday and have been waiting since. I also saw a few places that have them in stock, but it’s hundreds of dollars more.

that's exactly what I need to do with my King reservoirs. They are mounted horizontally now because of KDSS but it causes quite serious tire rubbing agains reservoirs at full lock.

But looking at your picture I'm wondering how you regrease bushings on your Total Chaos UCA? Looks like you need to remove the reservoirs and the mounting brackets every time you do the service?

Hey Daytonaviolet, I remember seeing you on M3Forums back in the days. I ordered mine through a local vendor in SoCal on 10/22/2020. I am approaching 12 weeks. The status as of this morning was “Kings is having difficulties sourcing components to build the shocks”.

Hey was up .. your name sounds familiar. Yes I installed the fronts this weekend and still waiting for my rears. I may install my icon 2” springs prior to my rear shocks .. they say my rears might be here end of Jan

12 weeks wow .. I’ve been waiting 5mo for my gobi rack :-(

i used to remove the resevoirs to regrease but i discovered i was able to loosen the UCA bolt without removing the resevoirs. standard offset Box end wrench fits. I loosen the KDSS line bracket and push it out of the way to give more space as well.

how did the ride height adjustment go? did you have to remove/replace everytime you wanted to adjust? how many threads did you turn / how much lift did you end up with?

i was able to adjust mine on the truck. Used the curved tool King sells. It actually worked loll....unlike Fox coilovers on my previous truck.

i adjusted the height w/ the springs off the body as i swapped 550lb --> 600lbs springs. i also set the allen adjustment facing out so i can adjust the height later if needed. i believe you can adjust while on the truck, just let the A arm hang. i ended up with 6 turns on drivers side (1 turn for my weight) and 5 turns on passenger side.

strangely, with the trd pro bilsteins and CF 2".. my height was 23.75". now with the kings i'm at 23.5". but if stock is 20", am at really 3.5" over stock?
