King shocks update!

Do my eyes deceiveth me? I was at 9 inches before.
Measure from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender flare. Now go search for stock measurements of this distance. Actually just look at the pictures you posted of the before-after side views. This is the measurement that will show lift. You are measuring ground clearance and I have no idea how you got that. Think about it: If you are running 33" tires the distance from the center of the wheel to the ground would be 16 1/2 inches correct? Now, unless you are running portal axles you cannot get even close to to that value.
Also ground clearance is subjective and different on all vehicles. Go measure at your LCA's or your cross over pipe for instance.

Ah, understood.
Luckily I took those beforehand.

Still seems like it's too high from my reading here.

The other mystery is it looks like you you got approx 3.5in in the rear on 1.5 springs probably has not settled any yet. To achieve that front lift correctly you would need longer springs than the "oem" king setup springs (assuming this is the oem kit). Odd. Wait for it to settle then remeasure but still would be pushing it with the stock front springs.

So the King OEM Performance series I ordered had additional extended travel. And the SAW 1.5"s are in actuality 2" from what I've read here.

Is it possible that there is so much pre-load on the front coilvers it's:
A. Lifting the rear suspension with it too? this is dumb nevermind.
B. Re-purposing the extended travel into additional ride height?

Extended travel front only removes an internal spacer on the kings. It still has the same "oem" kit lb unless your supplier had them specd. With king you should get higher lb or longer springs to achieve 3in properly. The close up CO photo does not look to cranked but the gas station photo the preload on the front looks like way to much for the spring length IDK.

Can you post more photos of your kings with the KDSS bracket they provide?

also can you post more photos or DM me photos of your tires? specifically the tread. I'm considering that size for my next tire. thanks!

Like this, or something more specific with measurements?

That's perfect Quebec Thanks man

Are you running wheel spacers?

i have my reservoirs mounted about the center line of the frame (about 2-3" higher than yours) and rub the reservoir without spacers.

I'm trying to figure out if its worth using Kings new brackets to give me some space for a bigger tire.

No spacers at all, and no rubbing for now....however my lift is way too high (+4.2" & +4.75") and my CV boots look crumple-ey to say for sure. Let me fix that and then I'll snap some more pics to show clearance.

He is misinformed.
you run the risk of prematurely wearing out certain 4wd components like CV joints, boots and possibly half shaft breakage.
...and this gentlemen is why the "sweet spot" is at 3" on the 5th gen 4Runner. CV angles.
If the pre-load and ride height up front are too high (much beyond 3" of lift), the CV boots will wear out quickly... and will cause a big mess and expensive repair.

Looks like it can't wait. I'm going to try and sneak in tomorrow to have the front end lowered and re-aligned. I'll follow up here for posterity.

Good move get it down to 2.5 in the front. If you want to run 3in you ideally need to get longer or higher lb springs from king. 2.5 is where it's at with the stock oem kit springs.

thanks! I plan on using the ICON 2" lift springs with the Kings...how much lift should I use on the front for a leveled look with the 2" springs?...and how much overall lift does that give me? sorry, pretty new to this stuff...tried searching but couldn't find the answer, maybe I'm not looking in the right area?

ICONs are a great way to go with the King shocks. The front is about 1.5" lower from the factory compared to the rear, so with those springs try closer for 3-3.5" of front lift.

Are you planning to run them with a UCA? We recommend it with the kings if you lift over what they come set at out of the box.

Need your own set of kings? Hit us up our pricing is super low as we are direct with King, and NO CA sales tax! [email protected]

How was the shop able to get 5"+ lift on my Trail with KDSS? :wtf:

The front skid clearance jumped from 9" to 15" (14" without the tire diameter change).

Brake line brackets, from OEM UCAs, store em with your spares.

Looks like you are going through (or did) exactly what I am at the moment. I took my collar down 15 full turns, which should roughly be 3 inches. Damn near what it takes to be level with the Icon 2" rear springs.

I started another thread ( http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...-king-coilovers-how-obtain-more-safely-3.html) and other users are telling me my height adjustment is too high and that it will probably handle like shit off road.

Did you end up dropping your front end? If so, major change in handling? If I drop my front, I will need to replace my rear spring as I HATE front rake...got myself in a real pickle here.

What has been your experience with ride quality on and off road up to this point, as well as what changes have you made if any?

Huh?!! All that good stuff and your still on tarmac??

Dude, get off the roads and YOU tell US how those Kings handle!! Pics / videos wouldn't hurt either :bounce:

haha yes...I know. Finished it last week, headed to the desert this weekend. My issue is (not a real issue really), is that I have never driven anything off-road besides my stock 4Runner so obviously I will notice major improvement from stock - current setup. But I will NOT be able to tell if they are performing at maximum capacity. I know we are only talking about an OEM replacement here, but I want to maximize all performance/comfortability possible...also don't want to risk breaking/damaging anything.

Sorry just seeing this now.

Yes, when initially installed - against my direct instructions of 7-10 threads exposed - the mechanic had 17 threads and it rode like shit.

I have 2" rear coils as well, You should have 7 threads exposed on both sides. I'm pleased with the ride now.

ETA: Just skimming through your thread, wow, it looks like you and I are/were experiencing the same issue on opposite coasts.

I appreciate the feedback on height adjustment and KDSS bracket pictures Quebec. Very helpful to a prospective buyer.

I am at about 14-15 threads showing right now. With the 2" rear spring and only 7 threads showing up front, are you "stink-bugged" like crazy? I really like the ride height, but the quality is poop. Although it has gotten better over time. last thing i want to be is all stink bugged but i want these Kings to ride like KINGS!

any ideas on how to maintain the ride height while putting that collar to the 7th thread? lol

Hello All. Have a 2016 SR5 Premium 4X4. Last month I installed King OEM C/O with compression adjusters in the front and Kings with reservoir in the rear. I did not make any adjustments to the C/O's whatsoever and I did not install a lift in the rear. I am running TRD rims and 265 Nitto G2's. Here is where I need some help...

Today I ordered the boxed variant UCA from California Super Trucks (CST). They look identical to the ICON billet variant. After installing my C/O's it was apparent that the factory UCA is terrible because I had to put a ton of weight and pressure to get it back down to bolt it back down. I'm hopeful the ride will improve even better then it is now and right now it's pretty nice. Unfortunately the truck still has a little rake (rear higher then the front). I would really like for them to be even or have the front ever so slightly higher then the rear. I will run these tires for a few years and then likely run 285's. I have an infant and my days of big lifts are behind me, looking for a nice look and off-roading functionality. Getting to fishing holes, locations to shoot, driving up to Big Bear Mountian and a little fun every now and then. My question is, how many threads should I be showing on my Kings to achieve a slightly higher front then the rear end?
