I would follow [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] 's advice and put down something over the paint where the fairing contacts. It will wear, I had a Yak fairing on my old pickup sitting in the same place your is, it rubbed through the the paint in a hurry. Getting rustascious cancer that close to your windshield seal is, well ask my old truck, bad news.

HAHA i read his post last night, i ran by auto zone and advanced auto this morning and couldn't find any of that clear tape, your right i got to thinking about it and better safe than sorry. tracking down that tape seems to be the hard part.

Thanks guys, I've still got to make the floor for it, I think I got quoted the wrong price for the mesh by ALRO, going to call back in the morning, if it's not as expensive as I think it is, I'll do the floor this weekend. the next fabrication project is going to be a ladder, but one that hooks on the rack and rests on the side of the tire, removable and can store on the rack. coming up soon is the body mount chop so I can put the lift and tires on. possibly spacers, not sure yet about those, still on the fence. Then the next fabrication after that will be skid plates and a hidden winch system. And the wife JUST threw a new project at me, "hey, how about a off road camping trailer? We could make one of those next.", looks like my schedule just got full haha.

yeah she had never camped before she meet me, she has slowly got interested in camping and prepping. the army is wearing off on her. :hunter:


but dealing with the truck, couldn't find any of that clear tape, but did find some black door trim tape from my body shop days, its thick so it should work great protecting the roof.
also took the rack off this morning to give it another coat of paint, the texture just wasn't quite right to me, I want it a more of a rough non slip texture, so I gave it a light dusting of the same truck bed liner, just held to can further back. but of course its getting down below freezing tonight so ive got to bring it into the den tonight so it will be warm and can dry. keeping the 18 month old off it seems to be the hard part of the night

+1 Couldn't say it any different, it is definitely a skill that I wish to learn to be able to fab my own parts. Props to you sir and great work! Looks better than some roof rack that are bought.

update to the rack, made a new wind fairing for it, made the bottom a half inch taller so it sits 100% on the windshield now so no rubbing my paint.
also picked up some mesh from DH Griffin for the floor of the rack, just waiting on the weather to get better to install it, cant decide if I want to bolt it on or weld it, welding would require grinding off some of the coat and welding, then recoating sections.

Is there any rattling or vibration at the front since the front is not mounted but only resting on pads? Do you have to have equalize the weight?

no rattling or vibration, the foam pads I have between the truck and mounts are compressed so that probably helps. gobi racks only rest in place also. as the same with Baja racks.

no I don't have any of that, give me a few min and ill go find out for you.

mounting plates are 9" long, 1"wide

risers are 2" from bottom of notch to mounting plates

cross bars are 44.5" from notch to notch

spacers that are between the bottom and top hoop are 1.5" from notch to notch

fairing is 7" tall and 43" wide

front "feet" are 2.5" long 1" wide and the riser is 2.5" from plate to notch

those were True Forged wheels. my screen name was wrxguy02 and I bought it off a co-worker whos screen name was F8TLBITE if I remember correctly.
yeah it was quite popular ovet a SVTP for awhile. I still cruise all the forums still even though I don't have any of those cars anymore haha.
