That sounds like a blast. Are their camp grounds at uwharrie or would we have to camp off site? I have a popup camper I could bring.

There are tons of places to camp at URE.....Gotta reserve the pay sites near Badin lake area ahead of time this time of year. You can camp for free a spots near the trail heads and along the trails.

yeah what he said, haha. we camp off one of the service roads. Or at the top of falls dam. finding a spot on the trail is hard to come by, we have never been able to find one. we haven't camped at the campground before. we only stay one night and head back home in the morning though. plan on staying for a few days this year and probably stay at the campground one night to get a shower and stuff.

we might go to uwharrie this weekend. depends on how our daughter is doing, don't want to drop her off at the grandparents sick. Uwharrie jamboree is this weekend. might see some of you there if you go.

I'd be interested to try out URE sometime as well with you guys... I've ridden dirt bikes down there but have never taken the 4Runner or any 4wheel vehicle for that matter ha

ok so ive been busy the past few days,
picked up some fj steelies from a buddy, got them painted up with semi-gloss black...
the next day got the tire loaded up and headed out to get them mounted. this rack pays for its self at least once a month hahaha.

got back, put the wheels on and noticed I didn't like the center caps, just stuck out too far. a little black paint on the rear hubs and problem solved.
tires mounted up, next day went to get it aligned. lots of problems for 3 days, not with the truck. with the shop/shops/franchise's that were trying to do it, (mostly having no idea what they were doing and not listening to me about the LR UCA settings). luckily ive got a buddy that is on one of the local FJ cruiser forms that heard of my problems, called me up, I drove to the shop he works at, that was 10 min down the road, 15 min later after the alignment guy got his hands on it, I was going down the road strait as a arrow, no control arm rubbing the tire, and no vibration (all the problems I was having when WATERSTONE kept saying it was fine).

well made you all wait long enough, heres the outcome... (only have 2 iPhone pictures at the moment, will get more this weekend at.... UWHARRIE!!!)
very happy with it. will be running the FJ steelies for a week or two then taking them back off and rocking the stockers until the tires wear out, or I go back to uwharrie.

We went to UWHARRIE, saw a black TRD Pro(RTT and a lot of bud built stickers) at the expo this weekend, and a grey 5th gen across the street and the out post. we waved at each other. had a blast, even got the wife to drive a little. once again no issues or problems, only felt atrac kick in once when I was climbing a ledge and got carried away with the gas. love this thing. just hate cleaning it.

Yeah we did the trails first then the jamboree. Tried finding you when we got back but you had already left

And yes the jeep couldn't make it up a ledge we pulled him up. He was in a group of jeeps and not one of them had any recovery gear. :bash:

Were going to Uwharrie this weekend. Mainly to ride the 4wheeler, but probably take it down a trail or two. If anyone is going well be camped out at the top of falls dam. ill try to take a lot of pictures if we take it out.
Great rack, thanks for putting up the measurements...im going to try and copy it but I want to make mine as low profile as possible.
Now that you have yours done and installed do you think you could have made it lower closer to the roof?
have you had any issue with water leaking around the bolt holes?

I could have gone lower, but don't want to go too low, I can barley pass straps and a stretch net between the roof and cross bars. and I haven't had any water leak issues, the rtv and rubber seal is twice as good as just the factorys hard rubber gasket.
I really want to build another on and make it a flat rack. if I could do it over again and make one like this one I would have put the expanded metal floor on when I was welding up the first time.

Did you weigh your rack when it was done? If so, what is the weight?
I just finished mine, and man! it weighs near 150lbs with the expanded sheet metal floor. I was expecting 70-80lbs
When I ordered the tubing they sent me 4 gauges thicker essentially doubling my expected weight, and then would not exchange it. So I went ahead with it but am kinda pisssed.
