Great build and i like the photos too. Nice to see the truck being used as intended.

Sorry if i missed it in the thread, but what made you make the switch to the Front Runner rack?

I have the same one (but with full expedition rails). Curious, how long did the install take you from start to finish?

QUESTION: Are you running wheel spacers with your Method Standards? I have the same wheel/tire setup you had (KO2) and yours poke out just enough, more than mine, looks kick ass. If so, can you soruce me a set of of spacers?

EDIT* I emailed Apex Overland and Josh said the wheels are -20 offset, no longer in production, no spacers.

Switched out racks because I'm always taking stuff on and off it. Way easier to setup. Also weight was a big factor. Started calculating how much I have up there when we're fully loaded down. Cutting about 50 lbs off the weight of the rack was a no brainer.

Hey AO, awesome build thread! I have a couple of questions about your roof rack. I am seriously considering building one for my 4th gen and I really enjoy your setup.

At one point you mentioned building a flat rack. Did you ever conceptualize that rack or was it just something you wanted? I ask because I would be curious as to how you would build your flat rack given the opportunity. Would you still make it out of tube all the way around?

What are the specs on the DOM and Square tube you used? I know you said 1" OD DOM Tube, but what size wall was it? Just curious as to how small I can go to keep my rack light.

Finally, where did you end up picking up all of your DOM? Local or online? I am trying to find a local place but it seems like online will have to be the way for me. Curious if you have a good or trustworthy source.

Sorry about all of the questions but I'm digging the rack and freakin loving the build dude!

I'd build the flat rack the same way I did the basket rack, just no upper hoops.
The dom was .087 wall of i remember correctly. It's somewhere on my build I think. I get all of my metal from local sources. Shipping 25' lengths is impossible. Plus support local!!!

Metals USA is the one I use here.
 
Its been a busy winter for us! Haven't had a chance to update this thread much. Last pic I took this fall before the Front Runner RTT came down.

extremely jealous! Just got my 4runner on Monday... can't wait to get started with mods! Fellow fabricator myself, but sheetmetal, not too much welding experience!

As with everyone else. Photobucket got greedy all of a sudden and wants me to pay $399.99 to unlock my account so i can link pictures.

As with many others, cant afford to do this... So looking into other means to do this.

Sorry about the break in photos and such. But well manage.

Took off the BOSS suspension
Ditched the SPC UCA's
Ditched the rear sway bar

Added the following!!! :high5:


Radflo 2.5 extended travel front coil overs
Radflo 2.5 long travle rear shocks
Dobinson long travel rear springs
Extended braided rear brake lines
RESZ Fab upper and lower HD links



With all of this done, we have taken a few trips around the whole eastern US.

Truck rides amazing. Cant say enough great things about it.

Still have a few more parts to install that are laying here in the shop, but have customers vehicles to do first!

Try imgur. The mobile app is crap, but it's easy to use on desktop.

That, or you can download Tapatalk and upload straight from your phone.

Do you have a part number to the dobinson rear springs your using? Also which extended brake lines did you go with?
How much noticable was the difference with those Resz links? Cannot wait to order myself a set.

How is the on-road handling without the rear sway bar and those coils? I have been planning to set the rear of my truck up with exactly these parts and nobody in the 4th gen section did it it yet. So Here I am.

677's for the rear
Rear links are required for long travel.
Handles like a stadium truck (google image that lol)
Metal tech rear lines
