It's been almost 9 months since I got the 4runner. I'm from NJ, so I found the 4runner on craiglist, guy was asking 3200$ , got him down to 2800$ it had a very slight missfire, no check engine light thought. Everything worked, from 4x4 to ac. And till this day everything rubs perfect :) the truck needed basically all new front end components, new timing belt, new valve covers, plugs, wires. Since I owned the truck I have done the following. New front end components, new timing belt ( continental ) new plugs, new wires, new valve cover gaskets, new transfer case and rear diff fluids. When I bought it had 173k, after about 2 months, the head gasket went :( ended up getting a JDM motor so know it sits at 185k on frame and about 80k on motor. It's 3.4 auto 4x4.*

Then I rhino lined the bumpers. With raptor.*

Then I started the satoshi grill mod. Got the mesh from a guy of Tacoma forums. Also added Bondi on the little edge on our grill to make it one smooth round grill.*

Finished product, no longer have the Toyota logo on the grill.*

Then I tackled some rust under the car. After the winter we had, there was lots of salt in the road. So I recently fixed the rust , bought some tools from harbor freight and some VHT chassy paint*

Rusty part is hitch.*

Today I regreaed the drive shaft.*

I ordered :

Front tundra bilstein shocks
Rear long travel shocks
Front eibachs coils
Rear toytec superflex
Panhard drop kit
Front diff drop kit
New front strut mounts
Trail gear rock sliders
Stainles steel brake lines
Extended SS bump stops
Skid plate of the 4runner forum here which is on the way.*

I'm waiting on shocks and rear coils and skid plate.*

My goals are to change front diff and tranny fluid and new front brakes when I install the lift.*

Also rhino line the rock sliders and skid plate and hitch.*

As of know it sits on 3" spacers with 33" tires. I can't think of any more maintance to do as of know. Maybe in future new exhaust and new o2 sensors.*

Will post more if I realize I missed more.

Also added trd stickers :)

no way! you got cupholders in your dash?!?!:wtf: i officially feel robbed. just kidding. that's a beautiful runner! same color and interior as my 99sr5. except no cupholders in the dash.:mmph: looks like its in good hands. the front end is badass!!! looking forward to seeing what else you do to her.

Lol y what's wrong with cup holders in dash. ?

I got new lift going in, sliders skid plate and few more. Will post more :)

I believe cup holders only came on 96,97 maybe 98 4runners then they switched over to the center console design.

Most people absolutely hate the cup holder on the dash. (Spills, flimsy holders, can't see clock, can't adjust the air)

But I really like how you have taken care of maintenance big time! It feels great to one day look back and see where she was and how far the rig has come.

Did you read my frame rust prevention page? If so, just an update. The paint started flaking off on the rusted parts that I didn't clean very well. But have since hit them with more paint. GRILL paint works wonders!

Love the work you have done my friend.

Thanks :), it's always best to do all maintance first and everything before moving onto the pleasure parts. Yes I have read it. And I believe to avoid the flaking of paint it's best to wire wheel it or grind of the rust to fresh bare metal and repaint.

Do you just re touch with paint or did u sand the rust of ?

In few weeks I'll be using raptor bed liner to do the skid plate and rock sliders and the hitch. All in one shot.

Nothing wrong at all! I'm pissed that I don't have them there. Once my dual cases are done I'll actually only have one!:redbrick:

Hehe, I don't mind having them in the middle console. Yea it covers the clock or the ac controls. But hey it's cup holders. Could be worse and not have any lol. Btw your truck looks sick in the avatar.

thanks man! still a "work in progress". i was close to being done with it when i registered on this site so i never posted a build thread. i'll be doing more of a "timeline" thread here pretty soon. really looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. i see you got goodies delivered!

Yes I did :) although I'm not planning on doing crazy mods because I want it to be comfy and daily driver and also comfy for long trafficy situations. But I say that now lol...... Who knows. As of know I'm going for skid plate, stainless steel brake lines, panhard drop kit, front diff drop kit, eibach coils, superflex rear coils, front tundra 5100 , rear bilstein 5100. I'm waiting on shocks and rear coils and panhard kit.

Over the weekend I paintd the sliders and the skid plate. Used self etching primer. Two cans on each slider and can half on skid plate. Two cans of vht chassy paint on each slider and can half on plate. Sanded it down with 120 grid and cleaned it with acetone. Came out really good. Few scratches and scrapes because when I moved the sliders into the garage it was soft. But I will touch it later plus they will get wire wheeled for welding in few spots. And yesterday the rear 5100 shocks came.in :)

Sliders are getting welded on this Saturday for $120 ...it's not cheap but has to get done.

Today I installed the TG sliders.

Paid 120$ to get them welded on. We trimmed the legs because it would of stuck out wayyyy to long. What do you guys think ? I was worries they stuck out to much but I think it's good.

Glad to see you're taking care of that 4runner and making it the best it can be. I really like the rhino lining you did to your bumpers. I just painted mine but I've always played with the idea of rhino lining them. Looks like you're on a good track man

So it's been a very long time since I updated my thread. I have done a lot to the truck. I'll try and make it as clean as possible.

So here it goes. I found a truck on Craigslist, 97 5speed which was in front end accident. Got the dude to part it out. And so I ended up getting the 5speed tranny and everything I need besides the ecu for $400.

So I installed the clutch pedal.

My buddies 2jz single turbo that he i restoring.

Installed lift kit:

Front has 5100 tundra on 2nd perch with eibachs, built right UCA and SS brake lines.

Back has 5100 bilstein with superflex coils, SS bumpstops stainless steel brake line and MStudt rear fixed UCA and LCA.

Poweder coated

Found rust in rear driver side quarter panel.

So we cut the rust out

New metal

Epoxy over the tac welds.
