i remember doing this ( or watching someone do this) with the bushings on the steering rack and there was one bushing in particular that took us over an hour to remove...

did you have any problems removing or getting any of the new bushings on?

any tips/tricks to removing it/reinstalling the new ones?

Yeah the hardest one for me was the far left. It is a complete one piece and it comes out on the side closest to the frame. Definitely took wiggling, cussing, and some pb blaster.

The other 2 were fairly easy. I didn't need anything for the far right bushing that goes all the way around the rack. The center bushing was tough to get to but once I set up a c clamp with an oversized socket it came right out. Kinda like doing ball joints. The new bushing went in with a little grease and tapping. Not hard at all.

Pb blaster is very handy to have for this project as well as a 24" or 36" breaker bar. The torque on the steering rod is close to 150lbs. Other than that just try to stay calm. Getting angry and frustrated is part of this project lol.

Ok some things have been going on. Work has been slow but I should have a few days here soon before the holiday where I can finish everything that's gonna get done before I move.

I repaired the rocket box and got new struts and sealed it up with neoprene rubber strip.

Lots of paint and finishing stuff! Hopefully it's a short day at work tomorrow and I can get some serious work done on the ladder. The upper bracket is looking good but everything hinges on that piece so I don't have anything else done.

Finally got a good amount of time for the ladder. I was covered in bloody abrasive when I got done today but it was worth it.

And one project is done! Fairly pleased with how it came out.

Now for the ladder. I was fitting it today but it needs a little more grinding to fit with padding for the paint. It's close and I think it's going to come out well but the progress is slow. I'm taking a break for thanksgiving.

Well the ladder is going to wait. I got the upper bracket finished and I even tested the ladder. Too much stress on the lip of the door for my personal comfort. Eventually it would bend it so I'm going to go back to the drawing table on it. I think attaching the bottom to a bumper will solve all of my problems and it will just be a pair of pins that need to be removed in order to open the tailgate.

Here's some pics for what they're worth. The top was solid but just not solid enough for me.

Oh and here's some pics with an actual load in the back. Kinda disappointed in the 906 springs. I guess I have about 400 lbs back there and I have next to no travel left. I'm going to get into some 890 or 891 springs. Not sure which set but I do plan on adding more metal back there and I do camping with the family so there's that to think about.

And I got bored when I was cleaning up the garage so I made myself a desk ornament screwing around with the welder.

Yeah, it may not be the fastest but I love my little 3rz. Maybe I will add some more power to it one day.

Gotta get edumakated first guys. I got a late start but it won't be too long. If I can find a place to work out of in Michigan I might to a rear bumper this summer.

Hey I was able to get offroad today! Explored a good bit of the eastern section of Joshua Tree national park. No pavement out there but all you have to do is stay on the trails. I would like to upgrade into the ome 890 springs. Other than that I was really happy with the 4runner.

Well I had a slightly eventful first day of travel across the country. Didn't get out till 1100 so that shot Amarillo Texas as the first stop out of the water but I made it to Albuquerque NM. Had a slight problem with the starter too. Truck has been running great but after I filled up with gas in the cold I turned the key and nada. Good contacts on the battery, and no split or torn wiring either. I banged on the starter for a while, tried a jump, and then finally I gave up and went old school. A nice fella pulled me with his truck and I got a lazy bump start lol. Man I love having a 5 spd.

I'm driving but I can control my camera by voice lol. Makes it a lot easier.

Also I greased up my driveline and the vibrations got better....but I'm thinking I've lost a weight on my driveshaft. Any idea how expensive that would be to get fixed?

Probably more expensive than just snagging a used one.

I paid $40 for mine, if I remember correctly.

Sadly no man. They were going to get mounted on the ladder but I just ran out of time. Probably won't get to them before spring or summer. No garage anymore. Hopefully I can figure something out soon though.

I know that feeling very well. This summer will be a catchup time. No new projects.....just doing the ones I started collecting parts for.
