Kumho AT51 tires 255/75/17

Hey everyone,

I have been looking to buy some tires for my 4runner and after a lot of research finally pulled the trig on a set.

i was going to get destination at, goodyear duratrac or coopers most likely (wishing the KOs i wanted werent $230 a pop)...and then i stumbled across the last 4 in stock on amazon of KUMHO LT255/75/17 load c - 6 Ply for $150 each with free shipping...I hadnt seen many LT load C 6Ply options in the others i posted for that price so I bought them. btw I did research the Kumhos and they are the 4th best rated AT on tirerack out of 19 tires...and they were 2d on the list for awhile behind the BFG AT. i havent found a negative review on them either...they came out in 2015. i live in MA and we have some pretty wild winters/blizzards, etc. so snow performance was important to me - these are supposedly stamped and rated very high in the snow...

anyone else running these?

We have been running the 285/70-16 Kumho AT51s on our '97 LandCruiser for the past couple years. Maybe have 6k miles on them.

No issues in the snow or on the fire trails.

They balance well and don't wonder on the road.

good to know - thanks! i am surprised i dont see as many out there or on the forums with their high ratings - then again in the lt255 size - they look to be more expensive than a lot of others - i happened to stumble on the last 4 on amazon prime though and figured id be saving at least $100 overall...theres seems to be a handful of tacomas running them.

Kumho

I just got a set of them last month from Tire Rack, mounted on matte black Ultra wheels. I didn't go for the C range, as I don't really do any serious rock crawling type of stuff. I've driven less then 500 miles on them, so limited experience to share. My primary motivation was for winter driving, but I like the looks of them with the black wheels so much better than the stock that I haven't taken them off since I put them on. I may just sell my stock set.

I started down the Cooper AT3 path, then rethought it after reading reviews about their snow performance. I like that these are rated as winter tires with the mountain and snow flake symbol and scored highly in snow and ice conditions, an important factor where I live.

I'm committed at this point, but still curious to see what experience others have had with the Kumhos.

Here they are in action last weekend on the Bear Wallow/Todd Lake roads above Bend. There were a couple of creek crossings and some pretty steep/rocky/mogul sections that called for low range and judicious tire placement. I probably won't go on anything much beyond that challenge level, and the tires did just fine. Happy so far!

thanks^ sweet rig. the snow stamp amd reviews in snow helped w my decision too. MA winters can get pretty wild (5 blizzards last winter give or take.) they have been on the market 4 years - seems they put a lot into the tire and marketing amd best of all in 4 years have been no. 2 and 4 out of 17 and 19 against a lot of the brands i hear so much about. if i didnt find the deal i did i might have spent a lot more on them or a LT load c, not e...i wanted something beefier since i wanted 255/75. thanks for your input.
