Ok Ive been down to LA twice in the last month. Both times I have been pleasantly supprised by the number of 4runners I see. It seems though almost everyone I see doesnt have the rear spoiler option. I currently live up in Portland, Oregon and its hard to find a 4runner up here without a spoiler. I might be moving down to LA soon to go to school and will like to have a more unique 4runner with my spoiler. Ok I just realized this is a pointless post but its just something I have noticed and figured I would put it up here.

Like what dingo said, just about all in NorCal have spoilers. I've only seen a couple, SR5s, that didn't have a spoiler... just like the only 2WDs are SR5 V6s.
Maybe on your way down to SoCal from Portland, you can pick up a 4R in NorCal and then head down the rest of the way in your new truck. Good luck.

Yup, I'm here in San Diego and don't see alot of new 4runners with spoilers, I think even Limited ones - looks kind of lost with out it. Luckily I got mine up in Norcal with a spoiler and 17s.

That's strange that most SoCal runners have no spoilers. What is even weird is I still have the original factory stickers and delivery papers for my '05 4Runner and on one of them it says something like, "Port of delivery: Long Beach, CA"?!? Yet it has a factory installed spoiler (the hump w/ LED brake light). I picked it up here in NorCal - Berkeley. That's some trip.
I went with my cousin to buy her 4runner. The Fleet manager i always deal with told us that a 2wd v6 is not avaliable in socal with a spolier. Since she wated the JBL, and the spolier, they got a 4x4. i thought he was BS'ing me, so i went outside to see. Only the 4x4's had a spolier. He know his stuff, more than any other sales person i have met. I guess Toyota thought it was not needed

Maybe I should have driven over to SoCal to buy my T4R instead of special ordering it here in Atlanta!
The rear spoiler is god awful ugly & a completely useless option. Unfortunately, you cannot find a T4R in the Gulf States Toyota or Southeast Toyota regions without a spoiler. That is why I had to special order one.

while driving around, i don't notice any difference. it seems split pretty evenly. at the dealerships, i see many of both. mine was bought in northern cali though (tracy toyota). most of the 06's i see have them.

It's all probabilities, since there are so many 4Runners in California the greater the chance you will see more w/o spoilers.

When I got my '05 SE last August, it didn't have the rear spoiler, there were some on the lot that did have it, but the 4Runner that I wanted, with the features that I wanted, when they rolled it off the delivery truck did not. I liked it, so I had the dealer throw an install in before the sale, except when I got my 4Runner back, it was that little one like what they put on the Sequoias. I wanted that big one, so I had them switch out the hatch for a new one and had them install the big spoiler that I wanted on the new hatch. I really like that rear spoiler. Useless or not. The hoodscoop is useless too, but I got the SE and gave up on all the Limited options in order to get one with the scoop. I guess it's just a matter of preference. Oh, I'm in SoCal.
I'm about to take delivery of mine I bought through tax free military sales here in Europe. The SR5, Sport, and Limited's come "pre-packaged" and we don't get to select our options. They are built uniquely that cannot be mirrored to any of the ones they produce for the U.S. market. They are U.S. spec but you know how some options aren't available for certain trims or without the purchase of other prerequisite options first. For example, we can't get Navigation because it's not in the contract with Toyota although we will be taking our vehicles back to the U.S. eventually. Before you couldn't get leather wrapped steering wheels unless you got the limited but they all come with them here. This is to include the rear spoiler. It's just a big option Americans like to have I guess. I like the look of the spoiler--it adds flare! Whether its unique or not is to be open for discussion because we are 100% modded with the pre-package deal.

Come on 4 Runner owners......Toyota is not becoming the #1 auto manufacturer because they make dumb decisions.
The spoiler option is placed on the 4Runner in certain regions because of weather conditions in those areas. The spoiler creates a constant down draft of wind across the rear glass when the truck is driven. This action keeps the rear window somewhat free of snow, rain, and other debris. It is a VERY GOOD concept that works. I added the spoiler option to my truck.......the only drawback is that the spoiler did lower my mpg by .5 per gallon but the look is much more sporty with the spoiler. The spoiler makes the rear end of the truck appear fuller and complete.

Actually, I think Toyota was uncomfortable with the way the back of the 4Runner turned out. In most of their advertising they stayed away from showing the back end with or without the spoiler. Not to mention they even changed the look of the spoiler - a sure sign they thought it needed to be redone.
