Ladywolf's cleanup/buildup thread

I am at a month and a half and counting! So far I have only figured out what part I need. :tsk:

This is my daily driver, and I like to try to keep up on things. Currently I'm in between summer and fall semester's at college. I'm also somewhat OCD on things working how they are supposed to.

I noticed today there is major scarring from a pipe wrench or vice grip type tool on the right hand CV axle, and its had a prior boot repair.....may be time to look into rebuild's or replacements......:faint2:

Got my new LBJ's from the local parts guy yesterday, along with a knob for the A/C (YAY, everything matches new now!) and an oil filter. Took the truck to my local lube place this morning. 38 bucks for an oil change and tire rotation.

All the parts are ordered for the valve cover replacement. Barring any major transportation issues due to the hurricane, I should have them Wednesday or Thursday (according to Fedex). I ordered them from Camelback Toyota.

Hopefully within the next week or so I can order the parts for the timing belt/water pump

Thanks Joshua. I've spent my weekend somewhat relaxing. Didnt do anything to the truck.

Fall semester starts tomorrow, so kind of resetting and recharging before the grind starts back up. Picked up a last couple of school supplies.

With my school money my non-vehicle splurge was a Stihl FS70R. That trimmer is a beast! Totally love it. Best 250 bucks I've spent so far on home/yard maintenance stuff....gas powered wise.

My one splurge for the truck, but they're worth it. 800 bucks off ebay. Brand new. I'll pick up a 5th one here in the next month or two, when I get my maintenance stuff done.

They wont be going on the 'yota until I get the lift kit done. Only going to buy new tires once.
 
is that the lunar moon interior color? (grey/blue) ?

I would venture to say yes, but I couldn't tell you for sure. I am not completely familiar with the interior colors on the 3rd gen 4 runners.

after scrolling through another post, I can verify that it is the FB16 moon mist.

Everything for the valve cover gaskets showed up Wednesday from Camelback Toyota. Thanks to the rain from hurricane Harvey and stuff with school, maintenance is on hold for a couple of weeks.
 
How's the radiator looking: brown with long, thin horizontal veins (cracks)?

It's been replaced already. Previous owner kept a list and mileage of when all the maintenance was done. I'll check in the morning of when it was replaced. I plan on adding a trans cooler.
 
update:

Finally got around to replacing my lower ball joints today. They were both on the way out. I don't think whoever replaced them last used OEM.

Between watching my neighbor doing the drivers side, and doing the passenger side myself, probably took 30 minutes total.

THANK YOU TO THE PERSON THAT INVENTED AIR TOOLS

Miraculously, the creaking is gone from my test drive around the block. We will see how long this lasts.

Many thanks to MBTim and his video for giving me the courage/knowledge to tackle this.
 
Do you have a picture of the old ones?

30 minutes???? You must be wonder woman. It took me all day but I did have rust seizing issues.

Two people that know what they are doing with air tools? 30 minutes is a good number, assuming no rust issues.

I love my cordless impacts. What a game changer. I thought about going with air tools but decided to go the cordless route when I heard the technology has improved and cordless impacts are pretty darn powerful now.

I love my cordless impacts. What a game changer. I thought about going with air tools but decided to go the cordless route when I heard the technology has improved and cordless impacts are pretty darn powerful now.

Cordless impacts are awesome, but sometimes you need the extra OOMPH outta air tools. It'll be a long time before I acquire some air tools, as battery powered are easier to store and maintain, and cheaper to purchase.

Theres a couple impacts I need to add to my collection.

I saw in one of your vids that you're using the DeWalt DCF899. I worked on that product development a little bit when I was working at Stanley Black and Decker. Advertised numbers are less than what the tool actually does in the test labs. I remember seeing a constant 1500-1600 lb/ft of break away( reverse) torque for a 30 second burst. Maxed out at 800 lb/ft in forward for a 30 second burst. Pretty damn impressive for a 20V Li-ion cell.

I was wondering if the advertised numbers were for real. Thanks for sharing this info. I think cordless impacts do an outstanding job and you don't have to deal with loud air compressors and hoses.

Mark, Nope, I think by the time we got done, Brentt (my neighbor) had already chucked them in the trash. We used an air powered pickle fork on them anyhow.

And No, we didnt use the air powered pickle fork on the Tie rock ends.


And nope, no rust issues, thank god. Whoever replaced the LBJ's previously didnt even bother putting cotter pins in the the tie rod ends.

My buddy and I built a quiet closet for the air compressor at his house and plumbed it up to the front of the garage to an air manifold with a drier.

Flip a switch and the compressor powers up. It's so quiet (with the stereo on) we hooked up a relay to light bulb so we know when the compressor is running.

Air tools themselves weigh less than their cordless counterparts, but managing those hoses. Yeah.
