laptop restore discs.

My wife's toshiba laptop is having a HD error after 3-4 years. It came with 'restore discs' by Office Depot. Can I get a new HD and doa full restore with those kind of discs? or I might be able to d/l a copy of Win 7 64. thanks all

Thanks, best I can do is a 7200 500 GB right now. Some are telling me that will not load unless there is some amount of Windows on the drive.
Second question: is the COA/registration number on the System page?

This doesn't make any sense - at all. Perhaps typo?

I don't know about your financial situation but I would recommend buying a new laptop unless you have a friend who can help you.

When you locate the right friend or family member to help out with this have them install the restore onto an SSD.

$150 gets you a great SSD these days.

This i3 2.1 is the fastest in the house, just a fun project for now. (I'm retired, pre Soc Sec). from what I have read, an SSD would fly in this rig, or my 2010 Core 2 Duo ThinkPad. not a lot of project funds avaiable now. thanks!

It doesn't matter because you can put any SATA III drive into almost any SATA Intel laptop. It just auto-down speeds to SATA II.

And you likely wouldn't see the benefits of SATA III anyways with an i3 lightweight notebook.

I have 2 SSDs running in my desktop at SATA II. Both are SATA III capable but my motherboard is pre-SATA-III. Still it is an i7 920 @ 3.6GHz with 24GB RAM so even though I bought it in 2009 it is still going strong.

Well, one day I hear my wife with a hammer bursting it up. She took out the wide screen and was starting on the bottom case. Of course there is no point in me getting it to rebuild. I just get to clean up all the pieces. life.
