Getting close to final leg? Think you mentioned a possible gathering somewhere before home. Guessing you're getting anxious to get home but also very sorry the 'hurrah' is ending. Often wondered how long a period I could travel - certainly know it is over 10 days (longest I've been).

Oh - did you gain a little mileage back east from Denver?

The Lone Star Toyota Jamboree opens tomorrow at the Barnwell Mountain Rec Area NE of Gilmer, Tx. I'll be rolling into my parents house North of Tyler tonight and unloading nonessentials (20 lbs of shot glasses and brochures, 200 lbs of skids, etc) to lighten the load for the weekend. They've got over 240 vehicles pre-registered. No telling how many like me will be rolling in and registering as they get there. By the time I get home Monday I will have been gone 1 day shy of 4 weeks. The trip odometer went over 7300 yesterday and I've still got roughy 600 miles to go.

After the South Dakota Harry-cane run I reset the overall mpg. It's been creeping back up into the mid 17's, but I had a slightly smaller reverse version of the blowing wind phenomenon coming east across Kansas yesterday so I lost some back (steady but strong NE wind). Amazingly some of the best tank to tank mpg of the trip has come in Idaho and Utah above 5,000' on 85 octane gas.

About to load up and head to OKC for the day.

although you will be getting there a bit earlier than me. I can only get a half day off work on friday so i will be rolling in around friday at dinner time. Look out for the 2010 mag grey with a woman at the wheel. im sure we can talk about oil patch and i would love to do some trails with you if you would like. i am quite new so expect me to slow you down.

I got here at 10 am yesterday. Setting up camp (finally) and wheeling have kept me pretty busy. As I sit here on the throne contemplating life I have a few minutes to get caught up. The Oklahoma Memorial was quite stirring and I had to sit down at one point to dry my eyes. The National Cowboy Museum was all it is advertised for. Some great displays in there and I spent about 90 minutes walking through that before heading to Tyler. I've joined a great group of people from a San Antonio Facebook group and will be wheeling with them. [MENTION=115953]HerT4R[/MENTION], I'll keep an eye out. We are camped at the Rover camp on the left side if you want to try and find us later today or tomorrow morning.

Had a ball today. Da White Whale is covered in red mud. I even had to winch out of one obstacle while leading s small group. It didn't look that soft but it sure stopped me awful fast!

If you had stayed an extra day in moab you would have had plenty of extra mud! Might have even gotten to use that winch given the soupy mud I found. The camping in the rain might not have been so much fun though...

Glad you got to the OKC Memorial CJ.

I definitely agree with you, I had to dry my eyes a few times too. The gravity of it hits you the minute you see all the memorials on the fence, flowers and t-shirts and letters that people still maintain and then when you see the Field of Empty Chairs, including the nineteen little chairs - if that doesn't break a person up they aren't human.

I think every American should visit the memorial in their lifetime. I know I will be going back with my wife at some point (she has not seen it).

9/11 was awful and horrid but in some ways I feel the Murrah event is worse because it was done by one of our own.

I'll be heading home in a day or 2, and will make a real effort to finish this thread. I just copied almost 1700 pictures to his laptop, and that was only the stuff I have taken since the 18th! I did have a great time at the Jambo and met several members there. I'll acknowledge them by name soon. I did especially enjoy showing [MENTION=115953]HerT4R[/MENTION] how much she could do with her new to her Trail. It made for an enjoyable afternoon. I'll try to get some other news up as I get a chance to get organized.

I was at the Jamboree and had hoped to hook up with you at some point, but with so many vehicles and people there we never ran into each other. Your trip sounds like it was awesome!

[MENTION=105481]3wbdriver[/MENTION] is awesome! He did take me around some trails at the toyota lone star jamboree, and they were quite invigorating, very technical but nothing fast or crazy. He was extremely helpful on giving me some pointers about how to navigate the trail over CB, as well as just picking a great line for me to follow. He was also fun off the trails, eating lunch and talking about offroad or the oil patch or whatever else was pretty great as well. really laid back guy.

if any of you get the chance to hang out or hit a trail with him, DO SO :thumb3:. I cant wait to hit more trails with him again someday. :hail:

thanks again [MENTION=105481]3wbdriver[/MENTION]! wont ever forget hitting those trails with you and the central texas offroaders. It was truly memorable and just seeing what my almost stock 4runner can handle was the best part :jump:.
