LawnDart's Build Thread

Who did your alarm? I am looking to have one installed too. I really like Stereo King in Hillsboro, but it seems Outrageous Audio is the only one who really knows Compustar very well.

MusicarNW. They work on Ferrari’s and lambos. So they make things look ridiculously clean on installs.

And I swapped from an ARB 47 fridge/freezer to the Dometic CFX-50W.

Ha, I just did the same thing. Sold my ARB 37QT last week and my Dometic CFX-50W shows up tomorrow. My ARB was just too small for trips longer than a weekend...and could never really freeze, or keep anything frozen.

I have the same fridge in my camp trailer. Mine is sans Wifi - older 55L model - but it's been good to go so far. It's been a really nice upgrade from the fancy Pelican cooler I had before. Oddly enough - I could see convenience in having a small model to leave in the 4runner just for keeping drinks cold and keep the larger one in the trailer. Does your adventure trailer have a second fridge in it?

The bigger XV2 has an ARB 47 up front, or a dometic, just depends on the customer. On the XV3 the bed isn’t big enough to fit a fridge without giving up a lot of space. And the tongue box isn’t either. So I keep food in a yeti in the trailer and stuff in my fridge in the vehicle.

I think if I were designing my own trailer again I'd probably plan for and fit it with a 3 way fridge. It would be nice to be able to run on propane if needed from time to time. Oddly they're usually cheaper, but mostly in upright form, which doesn't work well for bumpy roads.

What's funny is that I didn't even realize it opened on both sides for about 6 months. In my trailer it sits on a slide - but it slides the short way so you always open the same side. It was about the 4th camp trip that I realized you can take the whole lid off.

The 4runner looks good BTW. Sorry about the vandalism. Had my Lexus stripped at the dealer, in the dealer lot, by a dealer employee I'm almost certain. Took $23,000 worth of parts and about 2 months to get it repaired - and it didn't even require any body work like yours. A lot of it was waiting on parts like interior dash and door panels that they don't stock in the USA, so it takes forever to get them from Japan. Probably not unlike custom parts on your 4Runner that you can't just call up the supplier and have them delivered in a day or two. It's so frustrating to know that some ******* probably did it for a few hundred dollars.

Let us know how you like the weboost and if you actually see a difference in signal strength vs before. I was able to snag one through work and I'm curious as to how well it actually works!

Thanks, yeah it's 99 percent fixed up. There's maybe 2 spots on the paint that I want them to re-do that we're just missed. I'm a visual designer, so what doesn't bug most people sets off my OCD-esque radar. But honestly, considering what it's been through it looks really good.

The thing with the XV3 is it's a small utility / camping trailer, so you have to be efficient about space. The bed is only 6' long by 5' wide, so factoring in camping gear there's really not a lot of space. I always have the fridge in my vehicle, and the YETI works well for stuff that I can throw ice on. The bigger XV2 is just too big for my needs, and really isn't ideal given how much power the 4Runner has. Can a 4Runner tow the bigger XV2? Sure. It's just not a great experience.

So it's a balancing act.

Curious did you wrap your whole vehicle in XPEL or just the hood, front fenders (rock chip areas)

Front fenders, part of the roof, the painted portion of the mirrors, door cups, rocker panels, headlights, leading edge of the roof, door edges, etc.

Had I known in retrospect I'd have had the whole vehicle wrapped.

Also forgot to mention but did you already sell/have a seller in mind for your CBI rear bumper?

Sorry, missed this, I have a few buyers lined up. If ANYTHING changes I'll let you know.

I can't express how much I'm stoked to be going to the Pelfreybilt bumper. Which will be very soon. I'll either be there the week before Trail of Missions 2018 (I'm driving a raptor for that) or right before by a few days, but I'm going to be leaving my 4Runner with Pelfrey while they tinker with it. I can't speak highly enough about what they've built.

Anyways, so I'm kind of at a weird cross roads. Either I'm going to sell the 4Runner and build a Gen 2 Raptor...or I'm going to supercharge it.

While I want a raptor, it's impractical for my needs realistically, too big for Portland, etc.

And while I wouldn't mind supercharging my 4Runner, the increased gas costs, lowered fuel efficiency, increased trans temps for towing, and octane requirements, all have me a bit hesitant.

Alternatively other plans I have are to possibly buy a CanAm X3 and a nice flatbed trailer, or do some REALLY nice seats in the 4Runner.

LawnDart I am officially jealous.
I saw the pelfrey rear bumper and talked to tyler in person at overland. Thats one hell of a bumper your getting and it sounds like they have one serious wait list for it too.

The funny thing is...I've YET to see the bumper in person. I was really lucky to provide "input" on the bumper when Tyler first started contemplating designing it, which basically translates into to me writing out a long email basically saying what I thought was good about my current bumper, and what needed to be improved, and Tyler looked at it, probably saw that 95 percent of it was stuff he was already going to do, and then started making a kickass bumper.

Lots and lots of details add up in design, things like delrin contact points, how the arms lock open, how things cam and lock closed, the lines of the bumper, all that. It's really impressive.

I'm not switching to the Pelfrey because marketing reasons, I'm switching to it because I'm super picky, fussy, and obsessive about details. And the Pelfreybilt is just...it's really impressive, and they're one of the few companies out there that really solicits feedback and isn't happy with "good enough."

One day I hope they branch outside Toyota stuff, as I would absolutely kill to see them do bumpers for something like a Raptor.

I feel absolutely ridiculous in asking this but I did happen to pick up a Pelfreybilt front bumper and I also wanted to keep the “Toyota” emblem look on the front bumper and was curious how did you get your front emblem secured to your upper grill. Did you go with washers and bolts or did you just grind the nubs down and used some heavy duty glue? Obviously whatever route you went with it seems like it’s holding on pretty good and would want to copy that. Thanks.

The supercharger is fantastic! Keep a couple of cans of Torco in your rig if your worried about low octane gas, they are very well sealed. My daily MPG has gone up 2 MPG and the power is fantastic! I am running 316 HP at the rear wheels and roughly 370 HP at the crank and 307 FT/LBS of rear wheel torque after PSI put it on the dyno, best money I have spent!

It’s completely unrealistic and I’ll advised to trust that in Baja. I’m at the point of wanting to just sell my 4Runner and buy a raptor before I give any money to magnuson.

I just made the switch to a 2018 Supercrew Raptor loaded up and could not be happier (supercab is the better wheelbase for off-road). It took me a long time to finally pull the trigger on selling my 4Runner due to the amount I had invested in it. At the end of the day it fits my needs much better and it is light years ahead of the 4Runner and just a complete blast to drive on and off-road!!

Yeah that's what attracts me to the platform. It's really tame on the street, but in open country that thing is just a monster, especially with the FOX 3.0 upgraded shocks.

In 3 weeks I'm doing Trail of Missions again, but not in the 4Runner. I'll be taking the 4Runner back in 2019 if it's not sold by then. However I'm co-driving a well upgraded 2018 Gen 2, and I'm stoked. I just can't wait to have the confidence to push a vehicle that hard.

It's also a tough choice, I know as a daily I'd want the SCREW, but I know the SCAB is the better choice wheel base wise.

SCAB is the better choice looks wise, too. Two cents: Seems to me that you truly want the function over the practicality. Don’t compromise. You’ll always wish you hadn’t.
