Yeah that's what attracts me to the platform. It's really tame on the street, but in open country that thing is just a monster, especially with the FOX 3.0 upgraded shocks.

In 3 weeks I'm doing Trail of Missions again, but not in the 4Runner. I'll be taking the 4Runner back in 2019 if it's not sold by then. However I'm co-driving a well upgraded 2018 Gen 2, and I'm stoked. I just can't wait to have the confidence to push a vehicle that hard.

It's also a tough choice, I know as a daily I'd want the SCREW, but I know the SCAB is the better choice wheel base wise.

I have no doubt you will have an absolute blast at Trail of Missions in one! Once you drive one hard offroad you will want one even more, that put the final stamp on it for me.

Just a heads up from everything I am hearing is that the new Fox shocks are amazing in stock form but do not play nice with collars, etc since they will be controlled by the ECU. Heard that directly from a Ford Performance engineer.

If you end up selling the 4runner I would post it up in Colorado - suckers down here pay top dollar for 4runners. There's a stock TRD PRo with 75,000 miles posted for $35k, another posted for $55k

The new electronically controlled shocks are supposed to be better than the stock shocks, but I think the 3.0 upgrades are still the king of the aftermarket raptor shocks.

As much as I want a raptor, a once a year slug fest off road in one kinda helps get it out of my system. Who knows, I may be super mopey at FJ Summit because I'm back in the 4Runner.

I'm guessing with as tall as your rig is, you already don't spend much time in parking garages. Parking was the biggest downside to having an F-150 in the city, but garages were my bane. I can only imagine its worse in the wider Raptor.

Interesting you say that. Just yesterday I was thinking about that while pulling out of my spot in the garage at work.

I park way in the bottom so there are almost no cars around, and it's still a bit of a ***** to get out of the spot I like.

It'd be a multi-point turn with cars everywhere for sure, and that's with the 4Runner!

The day I had 2 Tahoes park on either side of me and it took me 10 minutes to get out of that spot was the day I said I was done with the full sized truck. The 4Runner basically feels like parking a go-kart in comparison.

So...

I'm officially heading south to San Diego, for the first production Pelfreybilt rear. I won't have much time with it this coming week because friday I catch a ride with the Raptor I'll be co-driving for this year's Trail of Missions (sorry the 4Runner won't be doing it again this year...maybe next).

I know the bumpers will start shipping sometime in August (that's the plan). So if you're at FJ Summit hit me up as I'll have it on my vehicle.

Well cliff notes on the Pelfreybilt Rear Bumper...it's wicked awesome. You guys who are in line are gonna be majorly stoked.

We have to do some custom stuff in terms of bracketry for mine due to my rear torsion sway bar setup, so I won't have it on the road till I'm back from Baja.

Have a great rest of July and I'll try to post photos from the road.

So we just got into San Ignacio. And I’m riding in a gen 2 raptor this trip. But driving a raptor back from Cabo. Here’s my take away. Overall...this makes my raptor boner go very flacid. I guess now that I’ve driven some of the same trails with the 4Runner and the raptor, I think my 4Runner does more better overall. The raptor is great in open country. But in technical terrain the 4Runner eats it alive. Day 1 we did technical terrain and rock crawling and it was painful to have to spot it down ledges and rocks that the 4Runner would just walk all over.

Simply put: sorry guys, I’m keeping my 4Runner. You’ll have to put up with me for a lot longer. I’m not bailing.

Glad you got that out of your system man. My buddy owns a 2nd gen (his 1st gen Ford bought back because it went through 3 motors) and its nice, but i wasnt impressed with the fit and finish inside. Toyota easily walks over it in quality.
