LC coil spring Color codes

this is new for me, but i would say that the double purple/dark blue/white set is from the front and the double purple/light blue/white was from the back of this FZJ80 from 97.

Ill start asking around for color codes from the back of LC's and see what I find,

but your measurements match the chart and the double Purple Dark blue are 8wraps.. and the double Purple Light blue are 7.5 wraps...

I saw on your build thread that you recently went to 9 wraps. I've picked up a set of 2.5" king coil-overs and am going to run 35x12.50R17's will I be happy with the 8 wraps or should I find some 9 wraps? You have a sweet runner by the way

I plan on running my 5125 (9.8" travel) shocks in the rear combined with these coils - the front will be treated to Fox 2.5's along with All-Pro UCA's... Pics to follow this week!

if you are gonna even wheel it a bit, I would go with the 9 wrap and the body lift to clear the 35s well.

9 wrap should clear the back more than enough for 35s but you will tuck way easier with the 35s than the 33's.

How much lift will you get out of those fox 2.5's? I'm curious to see how much rake you will get with the 9 wraps in the rear because I'm getting ready to lift mine with 9 wraps and tundra coils up front.

I got them in and they look great. I need rear shocks and found a upper control arm in the rear that is totally missing the bushing. I'm contemplating how to fix that. I will wheel it a fair amount with the family so I will keep my eyes open for some 9 wraps. I'm gonna try to get away without a BL I don't mind entrancing the body a little for the 35's. I've read all of those builds and they are all sweet but don't sell yourself short. your runner is coming along very nicely.

Got the LC 8 wraps installed and love the way they ride and look. Clearanced the finders just a little and can cycle the whole suspension without rubbing. here are some pics.

Hey guys, So i'm thinking about picking up all 4 coils (front and rear) from a 1997 LC FJZ80 4WD with only 129k miles. Can I just put the front and rear coils onto my 4Runner or can I only use the front LC coils on the rear? What kind of lift can I expect? What else should I pick up to get the kind of lift you guys have?

Use the fronts only. I have 97 lc Springs and they are great. You will get around 4 inches of lift. Look at my build thread in my sig. The fronts of our runners use a shock coil over combo so the lc rears won't work up front.

That's a nice build Rockdawg84 and thanks for the advise. The only thing is I can't afford front coil overs right now so i'm looking for something else more affordable for the front. Got any ideas? Thanks again!

Cruise craigslist and ebay. look for both coilovers and for tundra TRD front take offs. Also go to sites like TTORA.com and Ih8mud.com and look in the classified section for guys selling their stock TRD front Tundra coils and shocks. if your patient you can pick up front takeoffs for about 100 bucks. Good luck.

Hey sam. Thanks so much for the good leads. Never though of looking for Tundra TRD front shocks and coilovers in those places or what to even look for. Those are some great leads and I've already started looking. And to top this, I think my front shock or shocks went out today. Sounds like metal hitting metal on the smallest bump or pothole. How long do you think I can drive on a bad shock or shocks? Long enough to score some good Tundra TRD shocks?

The first is a safety issue that if you are driving on the freeway or high speed in town the tire will not say on the ground and will bounce over bumps or holes causing a problem with steering and braking. if its only one side I would say just be careful and you will be ok. (annoyed but Ok) The second issue is that the longer you drive with a bad shock the harder it is on your tire. It will begin to cup and ware weird if you drive that way to long. But I would say that since your are working on a tight budget your could get away with a couple of weeks. Also watch the tire where the bad shock is and if it shows signs of weird wear rotate your tires:

The strange thing is, that I don't feel anything out of the norm. It drives and handles just fine. And I only hear this loud-ass clank with the windows open. And the more I think about it, the noise started after I took it to the dealer for an oil change? Do they remove the skid plate during an oil chance? Could that be the sound?

But they are Toyota OEM shocks part #48531-69417. they are the right length and have the right valving. if you are a TLCA member many toyota dealers will give you a discount. shop around and get a great deal.

Im not a huge fan, but the procomp es9000 were like 40$ each they are decent enough and cheap... they have ones for a 2.5 inch application, thats what I have with my 9 wrap LC coils in back....

if you are specific, and tell them what you exactly want, you can get some from 4wheel parts, even though I cant stand that place...

you had the shocks for the front worked out right??

Duhockey, thanks for the good advise. I found the OEM LC shocks Rockdawg84/Sam recommended and uses for only $35! So it's a toss up and I'll have to research some more on travel and so on. I like the fact that the OEM's Rockdawg84 talked about have a shield or protector of some type? And thanks to Sam's help, I thin I finally found some good coilovers for cheap! Like about $80 plus shipping. Any good ideas on some front spacers and what else? Thanks again for your help and info! Thanks to you guys, I'm finally on the right track.

Steve doesn't list the LC shocks on his site. I paid 97 or so and because he is local there was no shipping but I wouldn't think shipping would be to bad. hard to beat 50 bucks for a good shock. Also and this is strictly my opinion. Don't get a shock and use the adapter because it will mess with getting the correct travel shock. is effectively makes your shock about an inch shorter and though that doesn't seem like a lot I have had shocks bottom out in the past and tare my frame. you might be able to use a rancho or procomp for a little less money than the toyota shocks but i think the extra 10 dollars or so is worth it. Remember the shocks and their valving will have the single greatest effect on how your runner rides.

And looks like they got 'em for $35.53 a piece. Not too bad. What do you think? Should I jump on this?
