Leather steering wheel covers...

OK I know its been mentioned and posted before but i did a search and couldn't find the thread on it. But who here has tried a quality leather steering wheel cover that wont break the bank? I saw one that looked DAMN good but not for 120 bucks!!! The feel of the trail steering wheel is really getting to me, so I wanna go ahead and try and throw a cover over it. SO if someone has a link to a good one for a good price please post it.

Euro Wheelskins. Order some heavy waxed or nylon upholstery thread and an extra needle. Soak the cover in water for about 30 mins. Take your time and do the double needle herringbone stitch to make it lay flat.

You can swap in a Limited steering wheel. But the cheapest I have found one for was about $800.

Yeah if i didn't wanna pay 120 for a cover I'm not paying 800 for a new wheel lol but thanks for all the options.
Also redline only lists up to 2009 4Runner.

Those are nice and the thing I like best is that if you stitch it correctly, removing the cover shouldn't leave nasty indents in the wheel.

I just emailed redline to ask if they have one for 2010+ 4runners. I like their design, you can install it yourself, and it looks factory. The wheelskins are ok, but its kinda cheezy how it goes over the spokes...it doesn't look professional.

Whoever had this 4r before used some froo froo hand stuff and I can still smell it even after cleaning it with every product, including isopropyl alcohol, that I could find! I've also got two spots (10 and 2) that are worn from the previous owner and I hate the "grippy" feeling its left there!

Redline got back to me and said they do make a wrap for our 4runners, just no pics for it yet, so it hasn't been added to the website.

I just emailed them back asking for price, and if I should be using a cover with or without padding. I am not sure if the covers are different for those like me, with just the soft plastic wheel, or those who are replacing a worn leather wrapped wheel cover.

Also, he said he would give me a 25% discount if I sent in pics of it installed, however I probley won't be doing it for awhile, so whoever first sends installed pics in may be able to get that discount.

Something what you are asking for will never be "cheap". "Cheap" = do nothing. Anything aftermarket will not be cheap, it will just be better and custom. With the demand and volume way low, it is impossible to make it cheap and good, that's the reality; since it is pretty much a custom solution. Unless you go get yourself the raw material, develop the process, apply it and go all [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] on it. You will have to invest time and skill, and then maybe, the material cost will be low.

I never asked for it to be cheap....just asked if there were other options that may not be so costly. I'm not asking for LS460 quality for Yaris prices....but maybe combined Avalon quality/prices. ...if that makes sense lol

Actually your pic is why i asked in the first place. Your pic popped up on the lead forum page as a featured garage and I asked what were the specs on it but never heard back lol. How did you get it under the bottom spokes? I really dig how that looks!

Whoops sorry about that. For the wheelskins size, they custom made me one since the thickness of our wheel is so varied. The top part is so much thinner than the rest.

I had to give them measurements and pictures for everything. Now that they have the size, maybe its easier for them.

To get it under the plastic I had to remove the airbag and then the plastic pieces which was just a couple screws. There is a plastic post that hits the leather under the plastic part so I punched a small hole in the leather.

I think it turned out great. My only complaint is with the white thread. After 4 hours of stitching it, it picked up a lot of the black dye from the leather. So it looks a little dirty. Might redo it in red thread to match the doors

I installed a leather cover on my 2010 4runner Trail this weekend and was going to do a write up for this but I just found this post. I bought a used 2010 and was surprised it did not have a leather steering wheel.

I looked at the Wheelskins and at this one made by Xuji. I grabbed the Xuji from amazon HERE. It was $59.99 and had free Prime shipping. It does not say it fits the 5th gen but you can see from the photos the wheels appear identical. It can be had cheaper if you get it from Aliexpress, but there shipping is slower and I was in a hurry. Search for “Black Genuine Leather Steering Wheel Cover for Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2010 2012 2014 Tundra Tacoma”. This cover looks OEM- the leather is solid on the top and bottom and perforated on the sides.

The install is easy in theory, but it is still time consuming if you are anal and thus it took me over 3 hours to do.
I found more on the Tundratalk.net forums HERE. That thread has lots of good photos and videos linked.
I watched two or three videos that you can find linked to that thread which were great help so I could figure out the cross stitch.

I did not take off my steering wheel nor remove my airbag and trim to do the install but if I did it again I probably would. Instead, I used the flat tool they provide to press the leather into the gaps. Tucking in the leather to the gaps takes time and being flexible helps! 

Here are a few photos of mine after the install. Excuse the red dirt covering everything but I was in Moab a couple of weeks ago. This cover feels GREAT and the leather quality is awesome.
If I see it show up on aliexpress again for $30ish again I will pick up a spare.
