Leaving terra firma, momentarily....

Prior to my 4R I had a highlander. It was lame, and I beat on it as a result, and had copious amounts of fun. Including jumping it off on a RxR crossing near my work. Not a dukes of hazard 'hang time' kind of jump. Just a 'get the front wheels off the ground a little, maybe the rears' type thing. But it was fun!

It had really cushy stock suspension and absorbed that stuff well.

But the stock suspension doesn't feel like it would handle it, and if it did, I would probably mess up my spine in the process of landing.

Anyone here have experience with this, maybe suggest what I should be looking for suspension wise?

Stock suspension will bottom out even without jumping it.

Jumping is really rough on a truck, but if you really plan on doing it, Radflo/King/Fox coilovers and shocks are the best for that. Also heavily consider air bump stops.

If you are going to seriously consider jumping the 4Runner, you'll have to strengthen the truck a bit if you don't want expensive repairs bills. There are a few folks who have jumped them stock but it ends up being an expensive fix with bent spindles, etc.

The guys who do it proper run better suspension, bumpstops, gusset the spindles, potentially reinforce the shock towers and more.

It's possible but it isn't cheap. Does look like a blast though.

What's your budget? It should be atleast $4-5k if you intend the consistently leave contact with terra firma.

Kurtfab front diff mount
Spindle gussets
Lower Control Arm Cam Tab Gussets

I can tell you that all the dash lights come on (well, vsc, skid, etc) and it beeps rapidly. It can even be heard over the "whoo-hoo"

Find a steep hump with a not so steep landing side. Get it up to about 70mph and hang on!

It's the abrupt ramps and landings that will kill it. These other kinds of air are mostly a 'floating' and not abusively hard on the 4Runner.
