LED backup license plate lights

Has anyone used/installed this product?

HIGH POWER 18W LED BACK-UP LIGHT LICENSE PLATE FRAME LPF CHROME

The details are sparse and I'm wondering:
a) does it keep at least a few lights on the plate when driving forward as required by law?

b) how easy is it to tap into the existing lights to install this frame?

c) I'm also concerned the chrome plate will scratch up the paint on the rear deck.

A) I'd say no. Instructions only mention the back up light circuit, not the running lights.
B) To tap into the back up lights, you'll have to pull the cover off the hatch and pull the rear quarter panel cover off to access the taillight. Not hard, just time consuming.
C) Put some rubber pads on the back of the frame. Like those ones that you put behind picture frames.

Tapping into the reverse light is going to be a bit tricky because I think you need to run wires from the tail light area into the tailgate. So you're going to need to fish the wires through the rubber grommets and what not.

What I use to space my license plate further away fropm the tailgate surface is rubber/foam insulation tapes you find at any home improvement store. It comes in a roll and is very compliant to molding itself to fit the uneven gaps.

Crap yeah I had a brainfart and forgot you had to tie in to the reverse lights. More pain than it's worth I think.

I own a 4th gen but I actually have this led license plate on order and should have it installed in a week or so if you want to see pictures etc.

Yes I'm interested. Seems like it will be a royal pain to run the reverse wire from rear quarter panels down through the hatch. Ugh.

Wonder if the lights would wash out the backup camera since they'd be right below it.

Alright so for everyone wondering what this looks like on the truck I have some pictures now.

I'll have to add it was a bit of a pain running the wires down the tailgate and through the quarter panels but in the end its a clean install and looks good.

After pulling the whole back end of the car apart to install these they are worth it :thumb:
