Led Interior write-up

I put together a few words and pics as to my recently completed Led Interior lighting conversion.

I think you will find the results a drastic improvement over the factory lighting.

It's worth the read if you are in the market to do something similar. Let me know what you think.

Though a write-up in regards to my simultaneously complteted footwell mod needs a few more days, here is a sneak peak pic.

Looks great! its a big difference to the original lighting. I notice you have rear head rest entertainment system. What type are they? How much did it cost you? thanks

Nice job, J.A. and write-up, I always love your write-ups......I did exactly what u did a few months ago and love it, my favorite is the door lights, when u open a door u can pretty much change a rear tire out at night no problem....

Where was this a week ago when I ordered my LEDs? :) I did go to your site to see if you had such an article because I've found it so useful in the past.

I ended up placing a small order to see if I liked the LED's, but now I will try these SMT LED's with that nice coupon you arranged for.

Just a few comments. For my glove box I was able to just reach up and use needle nose pliers to change the bulb, I didn't need to take anything apart. Maybe my Runner is missing a cover or something? It was the easiest light to install (not that any are that hard)

I like that you found another dome light option. It looks like it puts out enough usable light but isn't blinding.

What would you suggest for illuminated running boards? I think I want something with good "throw". Maybe the ones you used in your door lights?

Finally do you have plans to replace the licence plate lights with anything?

I would suggest to use either the ones I went with for the doors 2.0W or the maplights 1.5W.

I may do the license plate lights in the future, no rush to help people see my plates better ;): If I did them I would not get something too bright, just more for a color change.

Awesome, I just placed my order for all the same bulbs you used according to your write up. Thanks for the info and setting up that coupon!

I think you will be very satisfied with the results. If you can do the maplight mod as well I highly recommend it, it is simple to do and adds a lot of light in the up front area when entering the vehicle at night.

Thanks JA for the nice write-up and for creating the coupon. I just ordered my lights too. I like the lower power consumption but with higher output. Can't wait to seeeeeeee!

btw.. keep tinkering and coming out with those cool write-ups. I have a 2007 too! :biggrin2:

First mod I did to my 4Runner a few days after I got it, this and the exterior. Can't stand stock lighting...

I dont believe anyone has posted that they purchased those. I hate it when a retailer does not post any specs on what it is they are trying to sell. They may be great, maybe not? Who knows, no info to comparison shop.

You could email them and have them answer the following questions regarding each specific led replacement light you are looking for;

Kelvin color rating?
Wattage?
Amperage Draw?
Luminous Flux?

Let us know what you find out...

J.A i was wondering of maybe you could let me know how many leds you used for each different bulb?

I am not sure I understand the question. Can you clarify?
