LED light bar covers

Hey gang! After a conversation I had last night with a local CHP officer about weather he was going to give me a ticket for my LED bar not being covered, decided it's time to cover it up. Does anyone cover their bars, and if so, what did you use? Vision X isn't showing any on their web site for my bar. I sent them an e-mail but I haven't heard back from them yet. Any ideas???

I've got my eye on these. I have the amber ones but would like to get the black ones eventually. They're generic but fit pretty good.

Considering everyone and their mom has light bars nowadays, and NONE of them cover them (hell half of them leave them on permanently)--I would say screw it since you'll probably never be pulled over for that again.

The ticket would probably cost more than the cover.... the cover is just so if youre driving you dont accidentally hit the light bar switch with your knee and blind on coming traffic.

Plus our Sheriff frowns on any of his SAR members getting any kind of ticket...

That's ridiculous. They can't make you cover up your light bar. Sounds like he was having a bad day and wanted to pass it off onto someone. I've never accidentally hit the switches for my lights either...

I run my lights as high beams also since the stock high beams suck. They've helped me spot several deer and other critters I otherwise wouldn't have seen without them too.

You're blinding the hell out of anyone coming at you. So while you're able to see the deer, no one else around you can see shit. People running these bars as headlights NEED to be ticketed. The beam pattern isn't designed for that. :tsk:

The covers on lights still seems stupid to me. Sometimes I hate living in Alabama, but I am glad we don't have stupid nanny rules like that here. If you aren't running the lights with others around you aren't hurting anything.

I'm not running the lights as headlights at all either. When I'm driving with other people around I'm running my plain H4 halogen bulbs on low beam. The LEDs are only on when there are NO other cars around. I'm talking like 3 am coming home and as soon as I see another car I shut the lights off. I know they're blinding.

Trust me, I'm a huge opponent to all the idiots running HID's in their halogen housings and driving down roads rolling coal and shinning their 50" ebay light bar at everything.

I have the rigid Amber covers for my 30" single row lifetime led bar and the Amber covers from my 2 duallys however they only go on in the winter for snow driving otherwise I don't use covers to dim my lights. If I wanted lights I could have on all the time I would buy some different fog lights. When there is no one around I have everything on and I know for a fact I have driven towards a hyway patrol and he didn't care being I turned them off soon enough. I also live in Montana so that helps.

Actually, they can. In California anything over 50" above the ground needs to be covered, and if its below that you can only have 2 uncovered aux. lights. Found out today that the CHP is going to be cracking down on all the pre-runners this month. Guess I got off with a warning due to being in the "family". You would be amazed at the vehicle code in Ca. It's about 3 inches thick.

I did hear back from Vision X today & they are going to hook me up with a cover... Great company by the way.

That's awful. Another reason I could never live in California, I like my freedom on little things like this. That said I'd love to visit and drive the Pacific coast highway though.

I only run 2 of my rigids with amber filters. The rest are uncovered. The motor vehicle act here in BC require covers on auxiliary lights, and the lights are supposed to be wired into the high beam circuit only. Kind of contradictory, right? By the rules, your auxiliary lights would be on behind covers any time you switch to high beams. Not so bad with today's leds, but old school halogen lights would melt right through the covers!

Every time I come around the corner and see some asshat with ebay hids or leds on, I give them a blast with all my lights. Why they need their light bar on going 50km/hr down a well lit city street is beyond me.

Since most of the light bars are built very similar, I would think the rigid covers would fit most brands? Can't say for sure though. I think the dually / d2 covers are only 10 bux each. Quite reasonable to keep the heat off your tail!

We have morons here who are running them any time their headlights are on, and I'm ready to start ramming them. If your stock lights suck, then fix them. There are restrictions on beam patterns for OEM lights for a reason, and it's to keep you from blinding oncoming traffic and causing them to hit you head on.

When I said I meant I run them as high beams I meant I run them them only when you would run high beams, when no others are around. The stock headlights in these trucks do suck, it's just old technology at this point. The reflectors aren't nearly as good as newer halogen reflector set ups, and they don't even compare to the projectors in new cars. The second gen Tacomas have very good headlights for being a halogen reflector set up, and the amount of light put out by the projectors found in a lot of cars now is crazy. I did a projector retrofit on my Supra because the sealed beam headlights were useless. I love the output and cutoff, but I'm not sure if it's something I want to do to the 4Runner or not.

I hate people running any sort of blinding light when others are around, weather it's high beams because their lows are burnt out or they're stupid, HIDs in halogen housings, or offroad lights because they think it looks cool...
