The issue is not the bulb...I have the right bulb. The old incandescent bulb turned the white areas just in front of it yellow, so now that I have the white LEDs in it is dramatically different than the rest of the cover.

You are seemingly one of the few that has done a SR5.

I just did the climate control (non auto) and there is a yellow spot just in front of the old bulbs (looks like it was burned in) did you have this problem, if so how did you fix it? Im considering stripping the white off the back and covering it all with wax paper or maybe white Testors paint.

If you did a fix any suggestions would be great.

I used Red LEDs so I didn't have this problem.

long time reader, 1st time poster...

Hello fellow 4runners! I had some of my originals burn out, so started the replacement process and found this thread. I had already replaced my HVAC bulb, but still had a cluster bulb to and liked the idea of the white LED conversion. I have done some replacements, but still have to finish the cluster, the map lights, cig light (big maybe on that one), glove box, and not sure I'm going to do the nit-noid stuff like window etc...

I still have some concerns about having the right bulbs...

Im super happy with 2X Pure White Festoon 31MM 12-SMD LED Car Dome Light lamp Bulbs 3021 6428 DE3175 in the dome lights.

10X Flat Ultra White 6000K 37 58 70 73 74 T5 Dashboard Gauge 1 LED Wedge Bulb did ok for my hvac, left a noticeable hot spot, but I filtered it with scotch tape and a piece of a grocery bag behind the faceplate. (edit: FYI in my 1997 SR5 there is only one bulb)

My confusion is about the guage cluster being 194's I bought 194/168/T10/2825/W5W JDM White LED License Plate/City/Side Light Bulbs but they seem fairly large from what I have seen in others pics. (although they fit nicely in the license plate sockets.) Also, The prices on LEDs seem to have come down quite a bit since some of these posts were made, so I ordered a couple of different bulbs, to see about light patterns etc...

I guess my main question Id like sorted out before I pull the dash is regarding the "wedge"?? If I understand what I am seeing and reading, I do not necessarily need the prefab little plastic round bases? or do I? Will I be able to pull the bulb out of the existing base? and if so will those 194s I put in the license plate illumination sockets really fit behind the gauge cluster?

I also have 10Pcs T10 Wedge Xenon White 5-SMD 5050 LED Light Bulbs 168 192 194 W5W 2825 158 incoming because I think they will help with hotspots.

any advice on searching for the right sizes is appreciated. I am not much on the terminology, and it is really hard to determine much by looking at the pictures online.

There is an LED chart and 24's are for 99.. Its what I just ordered yesterday. I have read comments that they are correct and I have read comments that they are not which is nutty to me.. they either work or they don't.. we will see.

Replace your dome and rear hatch lights with something like these (there's US sellers if you need them faster):

Warm White Car 12 SMD 5630 LED Panel Light Dome Bulb T10 Festoon Spring 12V | eBay

and your map/reading lights with these:

LED Car Bulb 28 31 34 36 39 41 42 44mm Festoon SMD Dome Map Interior Light Lamps | eBay

Make sure you get the 31 mm 5630's in warm white (or bright white if you like that better, the first ones are warm white though).

You won't regret it. Way brighter than stock and they have low power consumption so if you leave you door open by accident you will still have plenty of juice in the battery.

Sorry to resurrect a old one. I have been everywhere I can think of looking for answers and turned up nothing. Doing all the dash LEDs and when I got to the auto climate controls I find this. Any one else have the blue wires that are hard wired to the bulb? And know if the neo a bulbs will work if the wires are clipped?

Wow, I've fixed hundreds of these and I've never seen a hack job like that. (I have seen some pretty bad hacks though) It's hard to tell whats going on but it looks like someone is tapping power for the bulbs off a different spot on the PCB. Normally you just put in T3 and T4 Neo Wedge LEDs in any color you want. Also, that ribbon cable holder doesn't look right. Does the control actually work?

Yeah i was really surprised to find that but it does function. i just find it hard to believe someone other than the factory did it because other than looking like a hack job the wires were all nicely taped down before i got to it and the solder points are not that bad. Also i ran a continuity test from where the wires are on the board to the contacts. I went ahead and ordered some neo's for it and going to test it before cutting the wires.

Does anyone have a place where u can buy the whole mod, meaning the bulbs are already counted and u just buy the kit

I have that info, I was seeing if someone has made a kit for us to make the mod easier.

Plus I was a 5th gen guy and now I am a 3rd gen guy, re learning things on this 2000. I didn't even know the ect and window. Have bulbs, mine must be out lol
