Pretty much the same thing. They're just used if your vehicle's stock setup isn't powerful enough to fire up the HID system. Our system is fine without them.

Hey man. A few points / questions based on my experience so far:
What kind of bulb is the Scion running in the LB spot? A simple upgrade to the OEM bulb to the Philips (XtremeVision) or Osram (NightBreaker) could really solve your problem, especially if the original bulb is old- halogens fade over time.
If it's an H11 like the T4R you can easily (and really cheaply) upgrade to a brighter H9 bulb (H11 = 55w, H9 = 65w) with some easy trims with a snip / wire cutter.
If you're going LED, the XenonDepot LED kit is the ONLY one I've seen that actually reproduces the stock beam pattern (in the T4R anyway) with actual brighter and whiter light. It's the kit with the copper loop heat sinks. Other LED kits are not up to par.

Not sure if it's an h11 I do know the number was 9012 for halogens and 9006 for hids. The loop one is actually one of the ones I was looking at. Supposedly the leds with fans are bad so I'm guessing that's what you are talking about.
So just an update, I got my wife's hids today and I went with the xtreme Phillips like suggested. I had scoped out my wife's car beforehand before ordering to see what I was getting myself into. I really lucked out! When I was scoping it I was surprised there were a few flat panels of metal that were open with just about enough room I figured for the ballasts. Also there was decent room behind the bulbs for my hands to work around. I figure ok looks pretty good but was figuring something would rear its ugly head during install. Anyways fast forward to today, I got home at 330, package was waiting, opened it up read the instructions and got some tools together. Started around 345 and was done by 430. Install took right around 45 min thanks to scions awesome engineering on these tc's. No problems came up at all and everything worked without needing the relays. I imagine if the relays were needed it would have taken awhile longer though. Fortunately it all went smooth. One thing I did do to conserve space which I was gonna ask everyone here. I ended up securing the igniter (I think that's what it's called, it's the little black box connected to the ballast) on top of the ballast. Do the ballasts get really hot to the point where I might want to relocate that little black box somewhere else? Also I only had to do this on one side which actually has more open space around it so more airflow hopefully.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying The XenonDepot H11 HID kit; it certainly seems like most of you go with the 4300k Philips bulbs - nice choice.

Nice!!! I want to do that with my runner but I scoped it out and it looks like a lot more work haha. I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to that yet. Looked like dust covers over the light so I'm guessing I would have to cut a hole out around it and that's what the rubber plug is for with the xtreme kit? Also a lot more cramped then my wife's car so I would need to spend more time trying to find a spot for the ballasts. On my first look i didn't see too many places I could use, I noticed some people sticking them in the gap around the fender but how the heck do you secure it there?! I imagine zip ties but dang. With my wife's I was able to get a weather proof screw with rubber gasket and attach the ballasts to a piece of open frame. With my runner nothing really jumped out at me where I could do something like that. Anyone have any pics of where they mounted their ballasts?
Also Steve great product, very well put together. I just have a suggestion and I'm not sure anyone else has suggested it but is there anyway to add extensions for the wires? It might make installation easier if we could mount the ballast further back or at least have a little bit more length. I noticed with the wire length as is it gives you only about a foot or 18 inches somewhere in there. It looked like I might have more room further back in some spots where the length would have helped. I'm sure most people find a way to make do and just make it happen and they may not need it but just my 2 cents from my observations. Could sell them separately at different lengths too. Anyways, again great product my wife loves it and most importantly I know she can see way better which means she's safer. Thanks

It really is not hard. If I can do it, anyone can LOL. I just put mine under the plastic lining on the sides. There's a semi flat surface there, and better covering.

Check out my build thread (link below). How to install on the Xenon Depot HID as well as the Philips LED. Having driven 17 with stock halogens, and with the HID's, the HID's blow the stocks out of the water. It's a tricky road to light up, but the HID's will give you the best (legal) light output you can get! Let me know if you have any questions!

SilverGs - Hameed! The Philips H11 LED bulbs will only replace H11 / H8 / H16 applications - not 9006. Send me PM with what you need, and i will do my best to take care of you. The current 20% does offer some pretty deep discounts though...

Ok cool thanks Steve! Ya I figured you prolly wouldn't be able to increase the length but thought I would throw it out there. Ya I noticed the rubber grommet that's included, eventually I'll get around do doing it haha.
Sorry I meant without using the 3m tape. I'm worried about the ballasts coming loose over time. I've used that stuff before and heat will start to weaken it. I like to screw mine down so I need to find some place I can get a drill and fit the ballast. Thanks for the pics tho
