LED replacement Lights

Just replaced mine...they are a nice clean light...but I felt that stock was brighter. Heinous and disgusting...but brighter. I used the 9led for the dome and 5led for everything else.

It looks like the same place everyone else is getting the LEDs from has one that SHOULD fit the high mount stop light. It's the 921 bulb.

I went out and pried mine out today to look at it, and it looks like it matches the picture on the LED website. Where an issue might arise is:

1: I didn't measure the diameter of the OEM bulb, so I'm not sure if the LED one will fit in the hole in the back of the light housing.

2: OEM is one bulb inside a multi-faceted reflector. As Uneek pointed out, the LEDs are more of a beam than a flood, so the light the LEDs emits might not look right in the housing.

That said, it's relatively easy to remove the housing (there are 5 tabs along the bottom, use a screwdriver or similar object to gently pry them loose) and relatively inexpensive to try and see if they'll work.

I'm going back and forth on swapping everything over to LED. On the one hand, I think it will look ok, but at the same time, is it really something I need to spend money on? I also can't decide on white interior lights or red? The red is supposedly better for night vision (which is when the lights would be used, yes?) but I'm not sure the red would give off enough light if really needed in the dark.

And for all you guys putting "brighter" lights in the map light housing...the factory ones freaking blind me at night, I don't know how you all are putting brighter ones in!

I guess I will have to just try and see what I think... I thought seeing the light is high enough even if the beam is just facing forward instead of flooding the lens it would be okay... I do like the fact that it is bright at night but that its also visable during the day...

LEDs will last longer than regular filament bulbs. Do you have a rear spoiler? The third brakelight on the spoiler is already LEDs. If you don't have a spoiler, you might probably want the LED lights that are arranged in different directions. The ones with all the LEDs on the top, the light tends to project forward and doesn't diffuse very well in the housing. I have LEDs in on my running boards and beam pattern is quite different than bulbs, more like a flash light than a flood light.

You're welcome. Hopefully the pics illustrate what I was referring on my previous post. I got the LEDs from superbrightleds.com. They are all super white WLEDx6. All the LEDs are arranged on the top of the bulb. There is a hint of blue and a slight blue cast, but it's not as pronounced as the pics make them out to be. The running board color is more accurate than my plate picture.

I guess another alternative is one of those LED light bars similar to a strobe/florescent tube. If you can find one similar in size to your third brake light, that might give you a very similar look to the brake light on the spoiler. Toyota had that on the 90-97 Land Crusier and first gen Lexus GS300. I don't think a CCFL, cold cathode florscent (used in headlight halo rings, amp boxes), would be a good option, because they're designed like HIDs, to be turned and on and left on, but not for brief and fast on and offs.

one for the middle dome, one for the rear dome. 2 194s for map, 4 194s for doors and 2 194s for lic. plate. i just replaced all 10 mins ago and will put up pictures later tonight. they look pretty nice and bright compare to stock.

How do I remove the plastic to access the bulbs in the license plate after i take out the screws?

Also, do the interior dome etc fade in and out like the stock bulbs when you open/close the doors? Thanks

Regarding your second question, I believe Fo_SheeZy (He's done the full conversion) has recently commented on this (and so have others earlier in this thread) and that the LED interior domes DO indeed fade in and out just like stock bulbs.
