LED Turn Signal Flasher Relay

What flasher relay are you running with LED turn signals?

I have one 7440a LED in the each tail light and 12 amber 9w "eagle eye" LED's up front: 6 per side wired into the stock turn signal wiring..

The stock relay hyper flashes left and right signals, but normal with hazards on. (I had stock incandescent bulbs in the rear at the time)

I have tried the EP35 LED relay which hyper flashes.

I am currently using the adjustable EP35 relay which works normally for a week, from then on it clicks an extra time after turning the signal off.
I have gone through two of these in 6 months. They eventually stop powering the rear turn signals and the fronts start to go dim and flicker after about 3-6 months.
The third, and current one started the clicks after turning the signal off issue right out of the box.
This one however has an additional problem.. It flashes normally, then speeds up, then it slows down if left on while waiting to turn. It repeats this over and over.

It's rather irritating..


Does anyone have any suggestions??

When you put less in turn signal you need a resistor or they will hyper flash relay won’t work right

Try a better quality EP35 relay EP35 | Novita Technologies . I've been running this for a few months now with rear signal LEDs and so far so good, only complaint is the clicking noise is noticeably quieter than the stock one.

I'm thinking a resistor might be the next step.
The LED relay I used prior to the adjustable LED one was the Novita EP35 relay I got from Advance Auto.
The adjustable one is some form of Chinese relay.

Were you having similar problems with the Novita?

Also a long shot but maybe those front LEDs are overloading the relay, though it would take a lot of high power LEDs to create a more than 13.5 amp draw (maximum rating for the Novita). If you have a multimeter handy measure the voltage going to the turn signals, then measure total resistance for a rear signal and the front . Enter the voltage and resistance here Ohms Law Calculator to calculate current draw.

I will try to get the multimeter out tomorrow and check those.
This is the only relay to do the odd flashing intervals of the 5 I've used.

If using the Novita EP35 LED relay would it still hyperflash if it was drawing more than the relay can handle. I would think it would be the opposite? Long flashes?

Never got around to getting the multimeter out..
I ended up buying 4x 50w 6ohm inline load resistors from eBay and put one at each corner. I wasn't really sure how many of need so I went ahead and bought 4 in case 2 wasn't enough.
The resistors didn't make the adjustable relay work any better.

Plugged the oem relay back in and it's all normal now! No extra clicky or random variable blinking signals.
