I'm guessing its the entire harness? Checked the fuse and its fine right light brake light works left one doesn't bulb isn't out because it lights up when the lights are on. Any ideas? I'm thinking about taking it to the dealer or a shop that could fix it or at least diagnose it for me.

ehh its a dual filliment bulb so the high side could be burnt try switching the right side bulb in

yeah I figured that was probably it to, but still no dice. :( I'm wondering how much it would cost to get a fix because I'm strapped for cash as it is right now.

do you have the towing option? if so it interrupts the wiring in the back if it is faulty it may cause your issue hope this helps

I have the same exact issue. Left rear light, only works when the lights are on and it's very dim compared to the other one. I have the two package and some severe rust in bumper area. The cover for the trailer harness fell off as well. I'll take a look at the hookup to the trailer lights.

to access it properly you'll need to remove the inside rear panels if it is oem it is plugged in line one on each side easy removal

Now would be a good time to update to 01 to 02 tail lights. I'm sure you can pick up a set for cheaper than a dealer fix.

So are the 01-02 tail lights plug and play? Mine is shot too. Same exact problem.

I fixed my problem, I rechecked everything I realized it was the contacts on the bulb itself, When the lights were on both were working, it was just the left brake light wouldn't work. So I rechecked everything and threw in a new bulb and it worked.

yes and no they changed to a smaller 194 style back up bulb now you can be cheap like me and just get some bulb holders and a little wire from the front at a junk yard and trim the plugs to fit a little and it will work just fine

My tail lights look pretty new, so I didn't really want to replace them. I just bought a bulb and all is well now.

Replaced the bulbs on both sides, my dome lights, and my headlights for 50 bucks. Not too bad I suppose.

left rear brake light

I have the same problem. Left rear brake light doesn't work even after I replace both bulbs. Did any of you guys get the problem fixed? Thank you.

I managed to fix mine by replacing the socket that doubles as the wire harness receptor PN 90075-60033; grey socket that the wire harness plugs into and has the turn signal bulb on the other side.

I did pull the light and check all the contacts for rust. I also ran continuity tests to make sure I didn't have problems where the connector splice things cut into the wire. Without the socket connector in, I was able to get everything to record zero resistance. When the socket was in, I couldn't get one pin to zero out no matter what, so that's how I figured it was the socket.

I have read that people re-bent the tabs on the socket to get it to work. I opted to just get a new one.

I just ran across this exact issue. It's pretty odd. My regular bulb looked fine. I popped in an LED bulb I was upgrading to and still no light when hitting the brakes. I simply pulled the turn signal outlet which doubles as the harness and I bent each of the little tabs out that go around the turn signal outlet. BAM! Lights work again. Cheap and easy fix.

sorry to bring this thread up from the grave but the problem im having is when i turn my lights on only my passenger side rear TAIL light comes on but when i step on my brakes they both come on so the light bulb works but its like it only does work when im on the brakes and not when i just have my lights on. Did anyone come to a conclusion or can some one help?

Did you replace the bulb or switch it the other side? Partially working taillight is not reason enough to dismiss the bulb.

Also have you checked the voltage of the contacts with the footbrake pressed? A volt meter costs like $10 and could clear much of this QA up real fast.
