Left CV Boot

I just had both the left and right CV boots replaced a year and a half ago at Toyota. Now they tell me the left front boot is leaking. I'm sort of pissed that the new boot already needs replaced, but it's been over a year so they won't replace it for me.

I hate to pay them again. Has anyone did this themselves and how big of a job is this.

Yes something is not right ....

I just did my passenger side about a month ago, It is very easy to DIY cost about $80 w/core for the new CV.

The only problem I ran into was getting it out /then remembered I have larger then stock shocks and it was getting hung up on that so I had to loosen the shock and move it out of the way.

Do you have a Haynes or such repair manual, it give instruction in there as to how to do it.

I knew I should have done a write up...but I am less inclined to do them in the winter when I just want to get it fixed.

Autozone told me that it is much easier to replace the whole shaft. The cv boot is $15, the cv shaft with boots is $70. I don't mind paying the $70 compared to the $400 Toyota wants, I'm just concerned I can't do it and get so far in and can't go any further or get it back together.

Any hints or problems you ran into would help (or surprises).

I'm not a mechanical person, but I like doing it, I'm just clueless.

Oh yes replace the shaft/not just the boot.

I would pick up a shop manual if I were you, it is straight forward but the manual would help. and you will need a friend to help keeping the brake on when you loosen/tighten the shaft to the differential(nuts) otherwise it will just spin if you have the truck off the ground. there is also a C-clip that comes off the hub.

Like I said it is easy but the manual walks you through it.
