I guess it depends on the type off roading they were doing. An FJ Cruiser should be better on a rocky trail than a Trail 4runner because of less front and rear overhang and a shorter wheelbase. They both have a rear locker. Those Dodge powerwagons are hard to beat in certain areas because of lockers front and rear and 2 solid axles (no ifs).

The article set the price limit at $60k. Thus, no TLC/LX and no Range Rover.

In addition, TLC has fallen in my eyes because of the lack of any axle lockers...not even optional. In addition, the current TLC/LX are even lower to the ground than prior generations, thus having poor breakover and departure angles. Don't get me wrong, i am sure that the suspension components are very stout as is the frame, but the lack of axle locker(s) and low-to-the-ground clearances are biggies in my book. Of course, they are huge too, but so is the PowerWagon.

x2. Overall, i think that the list is well-thought out and well-researched. I agree with the rankings for the most part.

Wrangler Rubicon and 4Runner Trail would be my top 2 picks. For me, i would pick 4runner Trail simply because it is more family-friendly.
