If you go with one of Nestah's setups how do you incorporate the splitter? Is there any way to attach the cb coax from underneath where the AM/FM antenna cable attaches or do you need to use the Firestik coax with the fire ring and put it between the mount and the spring?

Agreed. That's the setup I currently use and now have two nice rubbed out metal rust holes in the frame from the mount.

I think I am probably going to do the IMAF too. Firestik still hasn’t gotten back to me at all. Wondering if they will...

I'm almost positive they are the same thing. It's scheduled for tues delivery, I don't know if I will have time till next weekend to put it in. If you can wait that long I'll let ya know. The IMAF appears to have longer cable with it and just isn't attached.

Almost ready to take the test and then I'll be installing mine. Going to run a comet antenna out off the rear hatch for that. Some guys I go with are still cb so was looking to do the antenna mod just to stay versatile. Can't wait to be do e reading all these Q/A lol.

Just another option for you guys. When not in use, can twist off and put a cap on it. Wilson roof top mount.

I just installed this last night and still on its "shake down" phase VHF/UHF antenna, home brewed mount right onto the OEM rail.
Although this is anV/UHF (2mtrs/440) but small to medium CB antenna like ones with quarter waves with loading coils, could be installed in a similar manner. CB freq (27-28mhz) though will need a good grnd for this base.

I know this thread is " CB" but jst want to show this mount for ideas. This is a VHF (146.500MHZ) and its not necessary for that freq. for CB which is in the HF Band 27.205MHZ +/- it is vital. On my other truck where i have even lower bands i connect a stainless braided wire from the bottom mount of the antenna base and onto a good grnd contact on the roof.

Gents, just sharing my experience. Ive been in ham radios since I was 12, am now 49 ..

I see some antennas that are butted againts the body of the trucks. Not good at all as it will either detune the antenna and definitely block your signal on that side of the propagation for long range coms. Few miles distance or caravan/convoys is fine to get your signal out.
Center top of the roof would be the best. The roof acts as your ground plane.
BUT I know its hard to find a compromise spot for a 9 foot antenna specially when your trying to get to garrages & drive throughs. Foldable units would be my suggestion. Just my humble opinion.

Many ham antennas are fold over but for a CB you'll probably need to get a fold down mount to mount the CB antenna to.As far as 4runner appropriate,most are custom/universal and you make them work.

You can also get motorized mounts for about $100 and the way I went..... Ham and antenna install

After perusing as many mount locations as I could find, I settled in on left rear by gas cap door.

It's a PERMANENT installation.

I followed closely the threads about how to install an antenna at the rear to route the cable from inside of body forward to go into console just to right side of driver's side. Hardest part was getting the cable through the molding at rear of rear passenger seat.

A Uniden CB is mounted on outside of console next to my right leg.

Power wire was run under dash, through existing grommet and wired to battery with an in-line fuse.
