Any reason you'd go for the Diamond over the RuffStuff? The Diamond is (probably) stronger, but the RuffStuff is several hundred cheaper and still a chunk stronger than stock...

none really, not if they both still use stock Toyota knuckles. mostly I think I skipped over that part when I read it. :D

also, on ruffstuff,

As of 5/8/14--- The popularity and demand for our Axle Housings has increased tremendously over the last 6 months and our delivery time has slipped from 3 weeks to 2 months. With over 1,000 Housings now in use this is understandable however this is not acceptable to me. So, until we have our new Housing builders fully up to speed and we are caught up with existing orders we will not be taking additional orders for housings. I do not wish to make promises we cannot keep. This should take us approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

if you are in any kind of hurry, I don't think that will work.
 
I also think, if you're going to spring for a custom front housing, you should stuff it with 30 spline chromo's to start with.

you'll be pissed if you pop a birf and tear up the inside of the new knuckle....

not to mention having to go back and tear it down to change them out later, even if you don't break. do it right, and do it once.
 
Are 35's the biggest you plan to run? If so, you will be fine with the runner rear axle and the fj60 front. They both give you the width you want and good strength. You can always re gear the front and stuff in a cheap Aussie locker in there for now, they are still good strong lockers that will take care of you.

You're still staying all toyota that way too. :)

Yup, and I might not even do that. I'll make up my mind when the tires I have wear out.

I'm going to start looking at Cruiser axles. I probably won't go that way, but there's no sense in not looking. If I find a steal, I might pull that trigger.

I bet that more than 90% of the people currently running 35's or larger said that very same thing in the beginning....

rear: = ~58" wms - wms

I know, I know.

This is not the only truck I'll ever have. In theory, I'll start another build once I get this one where I want it, and the next build will have at least 37s.

In theory.
 
My local TrailGear pusher just quoted me a stupid price for a Taco width housing and a pair of 30 spline birfs. I can't say what he told me, but lets just say it isn't very much more than a RuffStuff housing and custom shafts.

The Guys on IH8MUD are saying 58.5 which would match a IFS rear not a 3rd gen rear. Strange that the FAQ on pirate has info that hasn't been called out and fixed if this is the case.

Hard to go wrong with a ruffstuff housing. I think that the 8" diff is plenty strong I've broke a lot of stuff on the Rockdawg but never a diff. Knock on wood. LOL

ive seen it listed both widths now, not sure what is correct. is it possible they came in different widths based on the vehicle configuration? ive never had, nor dealt with any LC stuff, so I only know what I read. and right now, its conflicting info.
 
Had to bump ya for an update.

So what's the verdict on your axle situation? Are we gonna see you throw a set of portals under your rig or what? I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see this happen.:bounce:
 
Nothing is happening any time soon. I have an unfinished engine swap in my driveway and a 2 month old and a wife not working in my house, both of which together put a huge dent in my mod money.

Right now I'm going to buy this rear axle from Ty and that's going to tap me out. I'll rob the elocker for my front axle, then I'll start saving pennies for a new front housing to match the rear. It'll probably be the TrailGear with Longs. I could likely go with the RuffStuff or have my own housing modded for cheaper, but I'd have to get custom shafts and they'd be stock shafts. With the RockAssault I get a clean solution that requires no modding or fab work, and for just a little more I get a set of Longfields to go with it. I think that's the direction I'm going to go.

But hey, I've got lots of time to change my mind between now and then. Portals would be sick. So would a 9.5/D60 hybrid. :D
