License plate light for safety & science

As we all know 'safety first' so I'm installing this LPR & I'd like to make sure everyone maintains that 1 second per 10 miles an hour behind me. I'll need to wire it to my reverse light as well as a switch. I understand I want to put in a relay on the switch to isolate it from the reverse light circuit. Anyone recommend an inline relay that will keep my setup clean and easy to install?

(The science part will be seeing what percentage of tailgaters like riding my ass once the LPR in place.)

I'd be more interested in knowing how many more road rage incidents you get yourself into by flashing a bright ass reverse light on the highway, particularly at night, since nobody will really care during the daytime anyway.

If you're dead set, on what I think is a pretty dumb thing to do, on getting this wired in you're over thinking it with relays..all you need is a 2 way switch. One position to be fed from the reverse light positive feed, and the other from a 12v ignition source. When you flip the switch to position 1 it will be off until the reverse light triggers, when you place the switch to position 2, it will disconnect it from the reverse light power and feed the 12v ignition source to it, therefor accomplishing what you believe will keep people from tailgating you lol.

My bet is that you stand a much higher chance getting blinded by someone flashing you back with their 7 light bars people like to run on the street.

Yeah just stick to the right lane and let people pass you. Getting worked up about something so trivial is a safety issue in and of itself. If they won't go around you, slow down more. If its a slower 1 lane road then just pull onto the shoulder.

you can't teach everyone on the road how to drive, its just not worth the effort/danger. They think they're teaching you by riding your ass and you think you're teaching them by flashbanging them at 60mph. Its a disaster waiting to happen

I get tailgated all the time because I drive the bus at the exact speed limit and everyone wants to speed. On the bright side, when they get closer than 2-3 car lengths, they disappear lol

As mentioned you may invite a lot of road rage doing what you're planning on doing, not a good idea in these times!!:gun4:

Also let a LEO/police officer see you doing that and you WILL get a big ticket and they won't care that the blinded driver was tail gating you!!

Guaranteed! I will tell you straight up, if someone hit me with something like this (whether I am or am not within their perceived bubble), I'm about to burn out their retinas.

Not sure how bright that thing is. I have two Rigid lights for camp set up mounted under the rear valance. When I get tailgated at night or have a driver w/ their brights on behind me they get the treatment. It's one thing to have brights in your mirror. It's another to be blinded by a light in front of you. The offenders invariably back off b/c they can't see. Yes, I've been in a light-off with a jeep w/ a full spread. He backed off. He had no choice b/c he just couldn't see a thing.

That has to be the coolest statement I've heard in a long time. That and the song 'Blinded by the Light' is now in my head.

I don't like tailgaters at all, but I'm not sure where one stands legally if the police take notice. I plan on getting a new rear bumper w/tire carrier to additionally be a buffer between them and me. For whatever reason the 4R attracts them. If the car is small enough I can't see them behind me stopped at a red light since my rig is lifted.

I had a guy with a Camry come in to the shop with a full on 50" or something Rigid LED mounted just under the bumper pointing upwards... kinda curious if he ever got a ticket for flashing that thing...

Obviously this little plate light won't compete with light bars but it will dissuade the tailgaters at the proper height & distance to truly appriciate the color temp and consider a better 'racing' line. If I wanted to compete with the light bar bros I'd install a Bat signal or should I say 'Bro' signal.

Still sorting the opportunity to do it, my nervous system doesn't always cooperate...

I considered something similar a few years ago but never got around to it, I like that the LPR is more subtle and not super aggressive for all the reasons mentioned (it's hard enough swinging the dick around am I right aemravan). This is much cleaner and easy to maintain. The light provides 1800 lumen at 5500K white, it will do it's job no muss no fuss.

I don't get tailgated in the left lane b/c I'm not sitting there. For those of you worried about the legality of light systems, I don't hear a lot of concern about the legality or safety of aggressive drivers coming up feet or inches away from other moving vehicles.

Search for a "Rear Window LED Car Sign" and put whatever message you want. Not saying it won't still piss some tailgating jerk off but it won't get you a ticket when you find out that jerk is a LEO.

I have thought of that too. It would have to swing down for use and back up, otherwise it would block the driver's view out the back. Also, It would need a slew of different expressions, such as:

BACK OFF MAN!
TURN OFF BRIGHTS!
CALM DOWN CUPCAKE
U R A DOUCHE
THE JERK STORE CALLED....

If the OP is truly worried about getting the attention of vehicles approaching from the rear, no license plate frame style light is going to do anything. How can I say this? One of my work trucks has a full width Whelen LED bar on the roof. (The same model used by the State Police here.) Let's just say it's bright enough to cause somebody to lapse into an epileptic seizure. You'd be amazed at how many people don't even appear to see it.

It's got to be aimed at the proper height. Perhaps it's too high off the truck?
