Life after 3 month Sirius XM trial expires?

For music, I prefer to listen to Spotify and the audio is much, much better.

That said, I usually negotiate a deal for $60 or $70 annually with XM simply because I like to occasionally listen to sports play by play if it's a game I care about...and the fact that we lose power a few times a year in our somewhat rural part of the western NC mountains, and it's nice to have available for streaming in addition to other apps we use.

YMMV. In any case, call and negotiate if you have any interest in staying with them.

I am interested, but only if the price fits into our budget. I think $70 a year is worth it.
I have had the free Pandora app for years and probably should explore it more. My son has Spotify and keeps bugging me to switch LOL! What I like about Sirius so far, beyond the lack of ads, is a couple stations like Little Steven's Underground Garage (Channel 21) I have started to listen to play songs I've never heard before, even heard a Beatles song I'd never heard, even though I was a Beatles nut when I was younger.

I have stuck with it for Stern and live sports as I am on the road a good bit and miss many games. Sound quality is indeed hot garbage, but especially on long trips, the juice is worth the squeeze.
I reckon with it costing well over $100 just to fill the tank, what’s another $20 a month?

I started subscribing to Sirius-XM over a decade ago. Where I live I can’t get radio reception except one automated endless loop country western station in a small town nearby. I have a home dock, which is plugged into my old 300 watt Pioneer receiver and what I listen to the music on at home. I also have a car dock in my Subaru.

When the subscription expired on my ‘18 SR5 I let it go dark. In the past, I had a huge music CD collection. Before slowly getting rid of the space hogging collection, I burned them to an external hard drive on my computer and synched the music to my phone. I play the music from my phone via Bluetooth on my 4Runner. I also play via Bluetooth in the Subaru, unless we’re going on a long trip and use the Sirius receiver from the house.

At a local thrift shop I pay only 4/$1 for music CDs, so I buy what looks interesting, burn and synch, then donate the CDs back again. When I go to the big city, the Goodwill store has a huge CD rack and I do the same.

I got tired of the crap Sirius sales reps pulled so went on an annual auto pay plan. I get the basic 100 channel level. My wife listens only to oldies, I play modern jazz and occasionally 80s rock. Prices have nearly doubled in the past decade. On my phone I have everything from ABBA to ZZ Top and all genres from the 50s to today. I can’t use phone internet for music while traveling, because there’s no consistent coverage.

I have an iPod Classic with 100s of CDs on it, but don't always want to decide what I want to listen to beyond the genre. Satellite is nice for the times I just want to be spoon fed music I might not have thought about, especially something I don't have on my iPod I would never hear.

Tell them you want the $5.00 per month plan or they can just cancel your plan. It may take a few minutes on the phone but eventually they will cave. I think for a while I used to have to have this conversation every six months, but now it's annual.

Not a pleasant experience. I finally gave up after a miserable half hour with a fast talking foreign sales rep that I couldn’t understand; one who would would go along with me for the basic music package then attempt to wrap up the call with selling me the full package at a far higher price. I went about ten rounds with him and finally told him to cancel my plan and hung up on him. I called again immediately and got another rep who I could understand, who didn’t try to hard sell me and I re-subscribed with the basic level and auto payments.

I have an iPod Classic with 100s of CDs on it, but don't always want to decide what I want to listen to beyond the genre. Satellite is nice for the times I just want to be spoon fed music I might not have thought about, especially something I don't have on my iPod I would never hear.

In the house the music is going but I’m busy doing stuff so don’t know who’s playing what unless I happen by the receiver and see, or the the DJ says what it is. So I don’t know what’s new from my favorite artists.

What is fun, though, is when looking at the thrift stores for new music to burn and synch is when encountering an album that I’m not familiar with the artist is using Google on my phone to sample tracks and determine if it’s what I want.

When I used to pay over $10 to $15 per album years ago for a CD, it’s nice to get four for a buck. And my digital CD collection is ever expanding, though slowly.

i used it for 3 months and cancelled it before they started charging me. there are things i like about it when we had a long drive but after that 2 week vacation, i don't need it anymore. paying monthly would be a waste of money. i might need it again if i'm out on vacation for a month or more and subscribe and cancel it when i'm done.

I have been enjoying the free Sirius XM radio than came on our new ORP, but not sure I want to fork over $22.00 a month for it. We are one month in, and the Sirius Hyenas are starting in on the phone calls. The woman called while I was driving home in the rain, offering me 3 months for $2.00. Seemed like a decent offer, but she needed my credit card so they could nail me at the end of the 3 month period. I told her this was not a good time as I was driving, but of course she said "Can you pull over?" LOL! Uh, no, sorry lady!

The only thing I would ever use it for is Music, but looks like the Music Only package is App Only, i.e. no car audio...is that correct? Still feels like more than I want to spend. Is there a trick to get it for around $10.00? Do you take the offer and tell them you're going to cancel right before they start charging to see if they extend the offer? Is there a way to keep Sirius in the 4Runner without bleeding more than $20 a month?

I still have my subscription even after 7 years. Nothing beats it when you're way out in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal. Streaming is fine, as long as you have signal. So if you're a mall crawler, then you're all set.

If you go off the beaten path a lot, like I do, Sirius is pretty great. The trick is never pay more than the current 'special rate.' As soon as it expires, call in and cancel. They will offer you the current special price when you do. I call in twice a year (the specials are usually for 6 months). I don't think I've every paid more than $6 a month for it, but I only get the basic music package. I don't do sports or Howard Stern, etc.

That's my plan, too. Only I don't give Sirius my credit card, I pay by check. Costs $2 extra per invoice, but worth it... when the 6 month special deal expires, and I forget, I get an invoice for the much higher standard rate, which reminds me to call and cancel, so they give me the special ~6$ per month rate, maybe a buck higher last time.

I don't have it out of spite for their marketing nonsense. We got an extra 6 months after our first trial because we liked it in my wife's Jeep. I told them explicitly not to charge my card again. The service went out so we figured we were done with it as we didn't care to renew. The country stations I listened to became down right awful. Later on they banged my card again for another 6 months when we didn't even have the service but they said we couldn't prove that and fought me hard to keep the money. Those were fun conversations. Then they still just keep spamming my phone from a different number all the time until I answered one day and told them to never call me again. I don't think I hate a business any more than I do Sirius.

I pay for Spotify instead and listen to podcasts. Much better.

I'd rather pay $6 a month instead of downloading music and updating it constantly. That's just me though, to each their own.
