Life After High School/College 2.0

Todays communication is vastly greater than back in the 80's/90's. There is texting, Instant messaging, e-mail, school e-mail, cell phones, FACEBOOK, MYSPACE, the list goes on. My point is that friends which didn't last after High school, can easily last well after college. Cell phones, yes they change, as do almost everything, but with the availability of almost anything online you can find that person so very soon. I honestly think that chatting with friends now will almost never cease, causing friendship to last A LOT longer and across greater distances than before.

It still takes the effort to want to talk though. It seems now, with online friends, we make more friends, but lose them more often because we meet new folks with things in common, start hanging around them, and the old friends get the back burner treatment, until they fade out of the picture completely, and the cycle continues.

I only have a few long term friends that I've known for 15 or more years. Most old friends have moved on, mostly because our lives changed so much and our interests now differ and the common bond we shared is no longer there.

You'll find you usually make friends that share a common hobby or interest, but when you grow old of that hobby or interest, not long after, the friendship becomes more of a chore to keep going, until after longer and longer periods of not calling or meeting, eventually they fade away for good.

The communication age though, does bring you in contact with many more people than you'd ever thought possible just 10 or 15 years ago though. It's amazing how I chat with folks like yourself, from all over the USA and the world, right here where I sit. Whether it helps or hinders true face to face friendships, it has opened a whole new door on meeting new people from outside your regular stomping grounds....

Yea. I mean I'm only a junior is HS, but I have been really good friends with these 2 people since 3rd grade, so you never know.

I agree with RamThis on this one. I still talk with High School friends some that I've known for about 10 years but I hardly see them anymore because I went to a different town for college and then again for work. Now I'm moving back to my hometown for my job and honestly I couldn't be happier. You just never know where life may take you.

Roger that! I suppose it comes down to the reality that we now have many buddies, but so few friends.
