Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

I have 16's and smaller brakes and I'm willing to make the compromise and I think my brakes are *fine*. GF drove the truck the other day when I was sick and she HATED them and felt they had no stopping power compared to her CRV. I'll probably upgrade the pads next time they are due for a change

Zak -

The nice feature about the FJ system is, the rotors are 1" smaller but the calipers and brake pads are the same size as the Sport calipers/pads. I actually took the brand new pads out of my Sport calipers and used them on the new FJ calipers.

Basically, the calipers are identical between the Sport and FJ - they just mount a 1/2" closer the hub and that allowed a perfect fitment for my 16" X 8" Pro Comps (with 0 offset / 4.5" backspace). That's why I barely noticed a difference in stopping power between the Sport and FJ package.

So you have the FJ calipers with the sport pads? Did you need new mounting brackets or anything?

Yep. The pads are interchangeable between the two calipers. I bought the loaded FJ pads, but since I already had a really new set on my Sport calipers I decided to use those up first. I kept the brand new "FJ" pads for the next brake job.

The Sport calipers are the 13WH and my new ones are 13WL (or FJ series caliper). I don't have a side by side picture, so you'll have to forgive my crude attempt at showing you a 13WL. I could have used either hardware for the mount, because all the bolts are exactly the same too. In short, the WL is a lower profile of the WH caliper - the exact caliper in size and piston strength.

Hi there, i'm new to 4runners, just bought a 2007 sr5 with V6 engine... I really love it! The only thing is that the suspension look too soft in the rear. So i buy and install FJ springs in the rear (let's say that i bought after market parts not toyota OEM... money save$$) I've seen there so much wonderful runners that i want to level it at least and buy some off road tires... Since i installed the FJ springs what should i buy next to finish the job? Let me try this:

- FJ cruiser front shocks and springs... + 1/2'' lift
- On the rear change the shocks also (still OEM and i have 82000 miles) should i buy FJ shocks models also?

also (this will be noob question...) what XRAS??? Doh

Thanks for helping!!!

What I would suggest is the Bilstein 5100's. They are priced very nice and are adjustable. I have the FJC springs and plan to upgrade my shocks/struts to the Bilsteins within the next month or so. Just do a search and you can find tons of information. There is also a sticky thread here in the 4th Gen that is listed FJ Springs lifts I believe. It has great info and pics with tons of people here who are running them. Hope this helps!

1'' Daystar Budget Boost in front

255/75/17 Kenda Klever MT - Great tires so far. Only $520 for all 4.

We get snow every 4-5 years, so this was a big deal!

EDIT: Hmm after seeing these pictures it makes it look like I need some wheel spacers. Opinions?

I have about 400 or so miles on them.

I really like them. Great price. I read a ton of good reviews and pulled trigger. Tech noted they were nice and balanced out just fine.

It rolls perfect 70+ mph, no shake, vibrations etc.

littlehandegan, How long have you run the 255/75/17 Kenda Klever MT's? How many miles do you have on them? Thanks!

I am thinking about getting some of these. I have googled them and I have seen good reviews on them but seeing Wxman's review something wants to keep me from buying these. I guess for $520 you can't beat that. I had Kenda tires on my mountain bike and they were really good tires.

He did say however

"The latest is I had zero issues with them. They were wearing great, looked perfect, and worked fantastic on the road. I ended up having one of them replaced under warranty because it was out of round. After that all of them rolled smooth at all speeds, not just interstate. They were pretty loud but not the loudest I've experienced with MTs. For the money you simply cannot beat them."

He had one tire replaced under warranty, and other than that nothing but praise. Note that when I ran 295 Trail Grapplers on my LX470, I had 2 tires seperate and replaced under warranty in the first 5,000 miles.

Yes I ran the Kendas and they were a great tire at a great price. Looked fantastic on the 4R too. Thing is, I'm on the highway a lot and they were a lot heavier than most LT "C" tires. That killed my MPGs. And, the road noise was pretty loud. About average for a MT...but still much louder than an AT. So I did the smart thing and sold them while they were still worth a good amount of cash and bought some Cooper AT3s (which are the best tire I have ever used in my life out of dozens of tires and brands).

The Kendas have thick sidewalls, sipes, stone ejectors, etc....features that you normally only see on high end MT tires that are twice as much money. If road noise doesn't bother you and MPGs aren't an issue...I suggest you buy some.

I have since sold the 4R so I don't check in here often. My buddy runs the Kenda AT tires on his Dodge Ram and he freaking loves those as well.

:( What did you get instead?

Went back to Chrysler. Got tired of the mechanical issues and paying double cost for parts. Never had any trouble with Jeeps and Dodges over the previous decades so I went back to what I know.

You guys who do a lot of wheeling should at least give the Kendas a look. Yes they are made in China, but they are a pretty good tire for a great price. And, I heard that Cooper actually bought the rights to Kenda automotive tires. That's interesting...
