Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!

When I first bought my '08 a few months ago, I went through this thread to see what I liked. As soon as I saw T-Dog's truck, I said "that's exactly how I want mine to look." So here it is:

5100's all around, front set at 2.5", Daystar 1.5" spacers in the rear, Spidertrax 1.25" spacers, and BFG All Terrain TA/KO's 265/70/17's.

And a quick note to newbie 5100 installers - make sure your spring perches are on right-side-up or you will end up with this (I'm so embarrassed):

Don't be embarrassed. I make mistakes all of the time as I know others on this forum do. It's those mistakes that help all of the rest of us not make the same one. Glad it all worked out for you in the end.

Bro lean!!!!! LTDSC would be proud haha

But it is very important to note that the height setting ring must not be visible after putting the perch on. That perch holds the ring in place, so installing all that weight on top of the ring with the perch upside down can be dangerous

And don't be embarrassed, we have all made little mistakes here and there on our trucks. Some have had to have their entire wiring harness replaced, I've personally snapped an ABS wire, drained the t-case the wrong way (shot out and stained my driveway), sheered off numerous bolts, among many other things! What matters is that you did the work yourself and you should be proud of that!

2.5 daystar with 255/75/17 GY Duratrac.
Went with 255 vs 265... A lot less walk with 255.
Also I'm shocked that GY are as quiet as BFGs! As quiet!

Lets try this again only in the correct thread.
You guys have any suggestions for a 4th gen with the Toytec ultimate 3" lift? Its 95% daily city/highway with some fun in the dry AZ desert. Mainly dry/loose rocks. Was leaning towards the Nitto Grapplers 285/75 IIRC, but open to suggestions on other brands/sizes. Im trying to do my own research but it seems like tires are one of those things where you have so many options its hard to know where to start. If we were talking about what tires stick well for an MR2 I would be all set but the 4x4 world is new to me.

I just bought the wife an FJ, I am thinking I am going to put a set of the falkens on it and try them out. They get good reviews and most of her driving is on the street with a small percentage offroad to get to the hunting lease.

They are also fairly inexpensive.

Which Nitto Grapplers are you looking at? Dune, Mud, Terra, Trail? After extensive research and tailoring to how/what I drive I chose Nitto Terra Grapplers and I love them, they are awesome. It's my daily driver so I drive mostly city/highway and light offroading. They are surprisingly quiet, great traction (wet and dry), and very smooth ride - almost comparable to Michelin LTX's. I have about 3k miles on my set and no issues so far.

(I looked at everything from GY Duratracs, BFG AT KO, Gen. Grabber, Michelin LTX AT, and a few others and from looking through forums, tire rack.com, and my brother in law who has a set of Terra Grapplers on his FJ, I pulled the trigger on these).

I have 285/65s and had to do some minor bumper trimming up front and push the inner fender forwards (already took off the mud flaps). I also did a lot of research on sizes - again from looking at the forums. Any taller and I would've been too close to the UCAs. 285 gives it a very aggressive stance. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Hated them, if you look close at them, half the tread is siped 1/2 way, so your not getting as much tread life, better off with cooper AT3's instead of falkens

Good to know, I have had Coopers in the past and they were great. Might go that route instead. Appreciate the feedback.

Daystar 2.5/1.5 (Installed in last picture)
Wheels: Raceline Renegade 6 18x10 -19 offset
Tires: 265/60/18 will be replaced with 275 or 285/65/18 soon.

Thanks for that. Im thinking either the Terras or the Dunes. The more I read up on it Im leaning towards the Terras.

I have been running the Terra for a little while now. I have had the Trail in the past. I spend a lot of time in the sand now and the Terra float well in the soft sandy terrain. They do pack up in thick mud but they are quiet for commuting and good ride quality. The Trail version is nice, but heavier and have a rumble on the pavement. They were good in the mud and more durable than the Terra version but heavier and stiffer sidewall. Not as smooth commuting. I also ran the BFG MT, these cut thru the mud well, but I didn't like them on wet pavement, they were always spinning. The narrow size I selected was nice Offroad except in sand which I see more now.

The Dune Grapplers have a crazy tread. Not sure how it would be for an all around tire. Just a heads up though, the Dune's run a bit bigger (in height). Something to consider.

So after my almost one year of awing at everyone else's 4runner I finally decided to make an investment in mine.

I ended up going with the Toytec BOSS Ultimate life with the Superflex HD rear coils and Bilstein 5100's. I also purchased some UCA's but Ill save that for another day.
This kit took me two days to put on mainly because I only had a socket wrench, hammer and regular wrenches!
Tires are 265/75/17r Next purchase is tires!!

I still need to level out the back end but so far it drives much better than with the XREAS.

Now I can finally purchase a T4G sticker!!!

is the front end cranked to the max? and how do you like the superflex hd coils because i am deciding on which rear coils to go with. i was thinking about the hd coils because i haul a lot of animals on a cargo tray since i hunt and also tow a trailer quite often.

This isn't my 4R it's my sisters. She wanted something inexpensive and more rugged than a normal street tire so I picked these. They are mastercraft atx 265/70/17(I'm pretty sure they are owned my cooper tires). No lift, no rubbing, no removing mud flaps. The sidewall isn't super rugged or hardcore but she didn't need that. The tread reminds me of a nitto terra grappler. Just thought I'd share these in case anyone was on a budget.

The Front is under factory settings which I believe is 2.5" I will be adjusting it shortly to near level. As for the rear coils they are stiff, really stiff. I love them and they work really well for towing. I think it would be perfect for your use. Make sure if you get the superflex get a coil compressor you'll need it!

Finally the day has come where I can post in this thread. I'm extremely happy. 3/2 Readylift.

Just curious, how do they ride at highway speeds? Tread looks good for the price. I noticed you can only get them at the Farmers Co-ops around east Tennessee.
