Hey guys first post. long time lurker! finally pushing for the lift and was wondering for some feed back.
I have considered all options and am going to get the ICON stage 1 Kit. with bfg at ko 285/70/17.

with install at 4wheelparts is $3600. out the door. what do you guys think? i have called a few places and this seems to be the best price. I will be mounting in stock trail rims. thanks.

any other things that i should consider cost wise. "reading the fine print on things"

any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks everyone.

I also wouldnt mind having the install done at BenLifted in Santa Cruz if they would price match. thanks agian

$800 seems like a lot for installation. If you're spending that kind of money, I would get the extended travel coilovers and UCAs.

any suggestions or local shops?
seems like 1700ish for the stage 1 lift
1000 for the tires
and the difference for labor, allignment and mounting.balancing.
any help would would be awesome

I was quoted $460 to install and align a Bilstein 5100 kit at the 4WheelParts where I got the kit in San Antonio, Tx. I ended up paying $590 for same at the dealership I bought the 4R from because 4WP couldn't schedule me for 2 more weeks. Getting the install at the same place you bought the parts from can make a difference.

Using a standard California markup for services $900 doesn't sound so bad. Isn't the minimum wage there like $20 per hour? :D

do the install yourself and use the money you save to go for a bigger kit. It can be accomplished in your driveway with basic tools in a couple hours. there is plenty of info here on how to do it.

I agree. My rule of thumb is if you can't install your c/o yourself you probably don't need adjustable c/o's.

Also make sure you get UCAs. You'll need them. Everyone can say what they will, but I can't get into spec without them.

Unless you are made of money and have a good shop, this is probably about right.

At almost exactly 1 year after installation, I am in the process of removing my Icons to replace the upper and lower spherical bearings. Only the bottom bearings have worn out, but might as well do both while they're out. I also had to replace the rear shocks a month or two ago, as pitting and rust on the shafts killed the seals.

Ya...listen to what the masses are saying! Do it yourself. You'll also learn a lot about your vehicle and have a better understanding when something does break

I'll second (or third or 4th or whatever) doing it yourself. I did the airbags in my rear springs and realized that these things aren't that hard to do if you ever played with legos, and I never worked on any vehicle before. I plan to do the lift myself as well later this year. I've actually done everything in my signature myself including removing the front seats entirely to put on the seat covers (with a little help getting the trim pieces on and off). Invest in a decent floor jack and jack stands and you can do pretty much anything and everything you will ever need to do to your 4R short of removing the engine entirely, and for interior get a decent set of plastic trim tools. Other than that, a good socket set and a torque wrench is about all the tools you'll ever need.

seems like 1700ish for that so age 1 lift
1000 for the tank s

I paid less than that for my stage 6 install and body chop in labor costs . also I don't trust 4wheelparts any further than I can throw them. Can't give you any recommendations on your coast that are close by, but I would check around and don't discount driving some distance to get the service you want.

Plenty of "I settled for xxxxxx place" horror stories about.

Okki

Are you anywhere near Demello Offroad? They give agreat deal if you purchase from them with install. then buy your tires and get the alignment.

Have you looked at Wheelers Offroad? They have free shipping on a lot of items and may be willing to work with you if you tell them what you want. I've had good experience purchasing from them in the past.

thanks everyone for the reply. i would like to do it myself. and have researched it. but feels as if it might be too much for me to handle. im still going to shop around, but i do appreciate all the input.

first it was a battle between toytec ultimate or radflo and now icon and now i feel like i have to research all over again. fml. thanks guys i'll let you know how things go down.

I agree with the general opinion that doing it yourself provides a great learning experience, but I would also add that KDSS can make the process very difficult. I did the install of my lift myself, and I spent more time fighting with the KDSS system than the coilover install itself. If I had to do it over, I would pay an experienced shop to do it.

I would suggest looking through other Toyota truck forums as well (or Lexus for that matter) for input on qualified shops to do the install. I'd be surprised if you can't find a trusted, experienced 4x4 shop to do it a a reasonable price (the price you've been quoted seems pretty high). In fact, I think Wheelers Offroad is in southern Oregon -- it might be worthwhile reaching out to them and asking whether they know any shops in the area (incl. NorCal) they would recommend.

My 2 cents...

Or find a shop familiar with newer land cruisers.
