Lift installed - need help.

I stand corrected. If you look at the picture in the link I posted from Bilstein you can see where my thought process came from. (or at least I think you can. LOL)
 
Anyone else have the same experience with the shock angle? The Coil not seating in all the way at the bottom?

Right now I plan on removing the bumpstops and purchasing a sway bar extension adapter.

Any other suggestions?

The shocks will have that angle to them. No way around that unless you relocate the shocks.

I would try rotating the coils so they seat better if you can. The springs should settle a little as well.
 
Looking at picture #2 again, the bump stop looks a little cocked to the side. Are they maybe causing you an alignment problem with the bottom of the coil?
 
They did seem to be taking a different angle than the coil. I looked at both of them and they seemed to be in the right position on top. I'll take another hard look at that.
 
My Bilstein rear shocks have the piston area (where the dust boot is) up top, but keep in mind I have Tundra rear shocks with an "eye" on the bottom and "stud" on top. No adapters here.

The LC coils are known to be pretty tall, and notoriously so when they are first installed, especially on our lighter T4R's. It took mine approx 3-4 weeks for them to actually settle to where they sit now and that was with me driving around with my sleeping platform, a few tools, full M/T spare tire in stock location, and 2 of my LC80 wheels with KM2's on top of the sleeping platform. I had to weigh it down for a while to get the settling I wanted out of the rear springs. What does this have to do with you??????

Regarding the seating of the coils: Do you have a adjustable panhard bar installed? Or a panhard drop bracket installed?

I am thinking that you just have the normal HUGE amount of lift accompanied with initially installing LC coils in the rear. Without the panhard drop or adjustable panhard bar, the axle at such lifted height is going to be quite a ways off to the side at static height. Think how the suspension articulates with our 5-link design and how the axle actually moves to the side as it follows the rotation of the panhard bar. So, maybe because your axle is ssoooooo far out of stock range with the new lift and stock panhard setup, it is causing the coils to want to sit crooked (not perpendicular to the axle) and not seat correctly in the coil buckets. This would also contribute to the "twist" in your rear shocks. I am thinking a panhard that is longer (an adjustable one) or the panhard drop bracket will bring the axle back to the center where it should be: pulling the axle back towards the driver's side. This would make the coils perpendicular to the axle once again (or close enough so that the coils will seat properly).

If you have a panhard drop or adjustable panhard already installed, then I am at a loss....

Let's hope I'm right!

Just keep in mind that as the suspension settles (lowers) it's going to keep creeping that axle towards the stock location. Even with the panhard drop, it may be a little "out" until the rear settles some more. Just load up the back like I did to speed up the process and if you want it lower still, remove the rubber 4Runner internal coil bump stops, as said above, that will lower you ~3/8 of an inch. FYI the Landcruiser's dont have those so I'm assuming you dont need to use them if you dont want to.
 
You are certainly not alone in the whole rake ordeal. I'm also currently trying to dial in a stance I'll be happy with once the rear settles. I have about a 3" rake I'm trying to settle down to about 1.5" with weight and a spacers for the front. Just give them some time and ad some weight back their. Hope it works out for you also.

Hard to explain but the place I am working on my truck is closed on Mondays. I will get access to it again tomorrow.

My panhard drop should come in the mail tomorrow afternoon. I am hoping that between the PH drop and removing the cone bump stops I can get this thing down to a reasonable height and angle.

As stated before I appreciate everyone weighing in and will post my results as soon as possible.
 
Ok, so today I removed the cone bump stops, disconnected the panhard bar, and disconnected the rear sway bar. The truck still has an insane amount of lift, the coils still don't seat well into the bottom, and the rear shocks are still at an insane angle.

While I have not yet installed the panhard drop (received in the mail this evening) or the SS sway bar extension (in the mail) I assumed that if any difference was to be made it would have happened after disconnecting everything.

For those of you with the LC coils can you please confirm for me whether or not the bottom of the spring seats all the way down in the coil footing or is what I have normal?

there is a part of me that thinks/hopes these issues will settle out once I get everything together and drive it around, the reasonable part of me is scared ****less to drive it.

Any additional thoughts would be appreciated.
 
I'm just wondering if the axle and body are still in the same position. I mean sure you disconnected the panhard bar but if you didnt roll the truck forward or backwards at all to reset everything back to center, isnt the axle still going to be sitting out to the one side? I'm just thinking of it like this:
- you lifted the truck really high, misaligning the axle from it's center position
- you placed the new coils in place and let the weight of the truck back down on the coils
- truck now sits skewed due to the rotational movement of the panhard bar and you having the factory length bar and no panhard drop
- you unbolt panhard bar
- ..... isnt the axle still going to be in the same position?

I could be incorrect but I'm just trying to wrap my brain around this after all the studying I have been doing today and it's proving difficult!

Maybe leave the panhard disconnected and roll the truck forward 10-15 feet and then roll it back, maybe the axle will re-center?

I'll check my coils when I go out to my truck, and see how they seat. I also dont think you shock angle is anything to worry about...
 
Tomorrow I will get the panhard drop on and drive it a couple of miles. I may do that and leave the rear sway bar disconnected. I'll just drive real slow and see if it repositions everything.
