Lift Options on 2006 Limited

Hello,

I have a 2006 Limited 4 Runner that will be needing shocks to be replaced in the next few months.

Is there an option to lift my truck a few inches when the shocks are replaced by using Bilsteins or the FJ shocks?

Will I have to replace any other parts....Tires/springs/etc?

Any idea how much I will be looking at $ wise for parts and labor?

One of the stickies at the top of this section covers specifically this. Let me link you there: here you go

FYI, it's helpful to search before starting a new thread on a common topic, to avoid clogging the forum with duplicate posts asking and answering the same things over and over again. I know the search function is terrible, but the answers to your questions take no digging at all.

Thanks. I was able to check out that link prior to this post. Just wanted a little more info. I have no knowledge about any suspension parts and will be paying someone to do the work. Just wanted to see exactly what I should be looking at and what I should be expecting to pay.

No worries; your questions seemed more like a general "can I lift my 4Runner with Bilsteins / FJs" (which is covered pretty well in the sticky) and less about the technical details of doing so.

You can lift with Bilstein 5100s, you can lift a small amount with FJ shocks/springs, you can lift with stiffer springs, you can lift with spacers if you want to. I think you can even run Tacoma shocks/springs if you change the lower mount bushing, don't quote me on that though. Tires won't need replacement for a lift, but any lift over ~3" will need new upper control arms; the stock ones won't provide enough caster. A front differential drop kit will also help bring the CV joints back into alignment if you feel it necessary.

How much lift are you interested in, and what are your plans for your vehicle? You might want something super beefy if you're planning on flying through the desert, but that would be way overkill for a few gravel roads & mud puddles. For mostly asphalt and occasional wheeling, the Bilstein 5100s seem to be pretty well regarded, and you have options on lift height with them. I don't think they lift the rear though, you'll need stiffer springs or spacers to accomplish that. Do you have (or plan to have) aftermarket bumpers? If so, consider upgrading to stiffer springs to combat the added weight while you've doing suspension work anyway. Keep in mind, changing to new springs might lift you slightly more than expected as your stock springs have likely sagged a small amount over the past 9 years.

I'm not sure on pricing (I did my own install, and I only have spacers which are fairly cheap), but I know I've seen others quoting a few hundred for install (front & rear), plus cost of parts.

Hope that helps steer you in the right direction.
