Lift

What size tires are you running? DS 2.5/1.5 is very popular and can fit 285's with trimming and wheel spacers. I would stay away from a spacer lift and invest in either FJ coils with Bilstein 5100's or OME lift coils.

Depends on what you want out of the truck. Daystar is cheap and great for most peoples needs. More serious off-roading requires more serious lifts.

What kind of off-roading action do you have in mind?

Most people go from stock to Daystar 2.5/1.5, then realize they want more (bigger is better right????), and go to OME/Icon/etc.

Go with 285 Duratracs. I wish I had the moment I got 265/70 Nittos.

If you are set on going with a spacer lift, both options require you to disassemble the strut assembly due to the pre-load spacer. You can achieve the same lift with the updated Daystar Top out only kit which is super easy to install.

Here is a picture of the updated kit:

Last time i checked, both kits share the same part number so I would call Wheelers directly and ask if they have the top out only kit available. They are super nice and helpful.

Side note: congrats on the new tires!!!

I really don't even need a lift, but I've been wanting the runner to sit higher for awhile now...I'm in tahoe so my offroading is through snow. I would like a 3" just to start out, then maybe down the road I will go bigger or I'll know for future reference on my new tacoma.

Installled my toyotec lift this weekend! Great kit, the ride is the same I couldnt complain. The only difference I can tell is I can feel speed bumps more than I could previous. Ill post some pictures this week check em out.

If I were to go spacers, which do you think is best? 3/4 of people go with the DS spacers and a 1/4 going with the cornfed. What do you guys think is best?

How many miles are on your current suspension? Might be worth just replacing springs and shocks

IMO its a total waste to install that kit you linked to IF you plan on swapping to the 5100s withinthe next year or so. I did that and ended up spending way more money than if I would have just got the full setup to start with. IMO one of the best setups without going to coil overs is 5100s all around, ome coils front, and Toytec super flex coils for the rear. The Toytec coils in the rear have a smoother ride than the rear ome coils if you're staying at stock weight. The full setup can be had from Toytec for $800 -5% forum discount. You may can find parts cheaper elsewhere, Toytec is just convenient because they carry everything mentioned. At 100k I wouldnt say replacing the shocks is necessary, but it's not a bad idea, especially since the 5100s have a lifetime warranty.
Bilstein Height adjustable front and matching 5100 Rear shocks - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits
3" FJ Lift w/ front & rear coils - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

Swamp Rider, that setup is what I would piece together. How does that setup compare to full OME swap?
Also, I dont plan on staying at stock height. Im going for 3"

If you aren't adding any weight to the rear, the Toytec rear coils will ride better. I've heard several say the ome rear coils are too stiff. As for the 5100s vs OME shocks, it's really a preference. I haven't ridden on the OME shocks so can't say hands down the 5100s are better. I like Bilstein in general, love the silver shock vs the yellow on the OMEs, and also have heard good things about bilsteins lifetime warranty. Not sure what the ome comes with. I have 5100s and ome coils, love the ride and lift.

I plan on purchasing a lift in the next few days...depending on which one I go with some of the coils go by standard, med, heavy...

Eventually I also plan on getting a new front bumper from SW. They say for the coils do not get the med coils unless the weight is already installed. If I go with the stand coils now and install a bumper later, will I have to replace those coils for med??

In a sense, yes. You will need to go med or heavy to handle the extra weight. IMO go with med all around now since you know you will. I have known some other 4Rs that have med all around and love it. I have also always gone stiffer when upgrading the suspension on my trucks. If I with OME I will be getting med all around.

I saw on another vendor site that with the V8 med should be used in the front. Can anyone back this up?
