Lifted truck but tore my tie rod bushing...

I just lifted the truck this weekend! But...I didn't pay attention when I was using the puller to free the joint....so it caught onto the bushing and slightly ripped it. Just a little bit of grease comes out. How easy is it to fix? I've never fixed one of these before...but I'm sure I'm able to. Is it just buy the new bushing, remove the castle nut holding the joint in, pull the joint, remove the clip, replace the bushing, repack grease, and reverse to install? Is there a special tool for the clip? Any help will do. Thanks!

If it really is a slight tear, just cheat... Use RTV black and smear it on and build it up a bit and let it dry completely

hmm....sounds like a great idea. I was thining something liek that...maybe super glue it shut...then something flexi over it.

no superglue. It definitly wont hold... It will just harden that spot of rubber. just stick with the RTV or any silicone rubber sealant. You're looking for something taht dries completely but remains flexible.

you can buy a new outer tie rod end for $40 from partznet. replace it, repair the old one while its off the truck and use it as a spare.

The upper ball joint boot is sold seperately through Toyota but I do not know about the tie rod boot. You might call your friendly neighborhood Toyota parts guy and see if they have a part number for it.
