Liftgate Assist

As luck would have it, the height of the liftgate open is a bit too high for my wife to reach to close is. Just curious if anyone else has the same dilemma and am interested on your "fixes". A folding one-step ladder is the quick fix for her but that also means leaving it in the truck at all times. Wish it came with a power liftgate option..

How much more reach does she need? I have in the past on another rig, hooked up a rope, just under the rear window long enough for my 4'9" mother to reach, but not long enough for the rope to get caught inbetween the door and floor/latch area of the rear door. That's why I asked about the distance. I have not measured, but I am guessing there is about 2 feet between the bottom of the window to the bottom of the door. And you can play with that using simple duct tape and a rope, then when you find the right distance for her, you can take off the back panel, drill a small hole in the agreed upon spot, put a rope through the hole tying off the end behind the panel with a washer and then I think she cooks you dinner! Some people get their 4Runners lifted. Sounds like you need a lift kit for your wife!

Thanks. If she stood on her toes and jump a little, she'll reach the handles. Will have to consider drilling a hole later--still too new and don't think she'll let me do it now. Gosh, wonder how much would a "wife lift" would cost - hmmmm.. elevator shoes!

They do make a "step" that fits in the reciver hitch! Just a thought.

Talk to your dealer. At my last service I mentioned that my lift did not open all the way by itself and he told me it was designed to stop once you let go after opening. No, really!

If you remove the drivers side cargo light, there is a bolt you can use to secure a strap.
You can put a canvas/webbed fabric loop and secure to that bolt and have enough room to put the light back in. No holes.
That might be the best option.

Thank you all... will have to give it a thought and decide what to do. Will also talk to the dealer's service dept to see if them have a fix that does not include me disassembling/drilling anything.

If she's tall enough to reach the black part of one of the liftgate struts, she can pull that down a little bit until she can reach the hatch...
