light wheeling areas near near Chino Hills, OC?

Hey SoCal,

Any places nearby to do a little overland style off-roading? Not interested in anything highly technical or rocky since I don't have upgraded skids yet...

On another note, I live in the South Bay Area and would love to meet up and wheel with some local T4R members sometime. My truck is a 2014 TEP with some bolt-on mods

Not much until you get to the local forests (Angeles, Cleveland & San Bernardino) or beyond. Out Chino Hills way would be North Main Divide, when it's open. My favorite starting point is in Silverado Canyon. Eat breakfast at the small cafe in Silverado and then head up to Santiago Peak. Great views on a clear day. Head down the way you came or continue on to hwy 74, or you could head to Corona or Temescal Canyon if you want.

If you feel adventurous you could continue South, across hwy 74, on South Main Divide, it gets tricky though. This route will take you past an OHV park, waterfall (about a 1 mile steady incline hike), Tenaja, De Luz and eventually Fallbrook. You could end the trip with a late lunch or early dinner in Oceanside. Lots of cool stuff off South Main Divide, but it's a mix of dirt and asphalt.

I'm in Southbay as well. Let me know if you're heading out. I have weird weekdays off sometimes so I'm down to go in the middle of the week as well.
I'm pretty familiar with the fire roads and some light 4x4 trails in and around Big Bear also. I go camping up there in the summer a lot.

I've been meaning to run up Santiago Peak ...
I live in Cerritos... There are a couple of trails you can take to go up there. Just depends where you want to start.

San Gabriel canyon up hwy 39. Only open on weekends, good to go one time.
Easy stream crossing at entrance, a little rough dirt, some sand, you can try a few small hills and you can watch the crazy mud people from a safe distance.

Thanks BobsTrail, I wasn't aware of that OHV park. The Wildomar OHV is nice, but pinstripping is guaranteed.

The Wildomar park is neat. I ran most of it in 2wd locked. It is a tight trail ride deal, you will get some bad pin stripes. I want to do the North Divide someday soon.

Keep in mind Santiago Peak gate is closed on the access through Chapman side due to wildfire. Went up last weekend and got turned around, just went and played in Holy Jim for a little bit.

I got a little too close to the mud people last time I went. But, it was pretty cool getting pulled out by a propane powered rock crawler.

Thank you guys for ALL the tips. I used to go to Hungry Valley a few years ago...it was literally the only wheeling area I knew of! Glad there's more local stuff too
