Limited 20inch spare

I am looking to switch the stock tires on my limited with 265/70/17 tires. I was wondering if there would be any issues with keeping my 20 inch spare and using it instead of getting a new rim and tire for my spare.

I just did the same swap so I hope not!

I believe those sizes give pretty close outer diameter measures so you should be fine. Not sure how great or subtly that varies with tire models.

I think I am going to move forward with this as well. Thinking about the TRD rims.

Where did you sell your Ltd rims?

No issue. Make sure you have lugs for the OEM spare since most aftermarket wheels do not use the OEM-type lugs....

Some TRD rims such as this one use different lug nuts which do not work with stock wheels.

20" spare tire with 17" wheels

I am looking to switch the stock tires on my limited with 265/70/17 tires. I was wondering if there would be any issues with keeping my 20 inch spare and using it instead of getting a new rim and tire for my spare.

The problem may be in off-road situations where you need to air down for better traction. The 20" wheel will not air down as well and very quickly you'll have different wheel diameters and torque/traction characteristics. It may matter in 4 wheel drive conditions.

If you have a flat while off-roading you're stuck with the 20" rim on your spare. Better to buy a spare 17" wheel and tire and sell that 20" for whatever you can get for it.

I converted my 20" to a winter set with Blizzak tires. I wanted to be more off road friendly for the summer adventures, hence the 17", but in the winter I wont' be out in the bush so the 20" are fine.

Good point - hadn't thought of that! However, in this scenario another option would be to air up again so everything matches.

Maybe that's the test: If you find yourself in situations that airing down is make-or-break for traction then you should really be running matching tires. You're probably also serious enough about your offroading that you've already got that all figured out
