Agree. I've had the 4runner for a year and have yet to experience the "panic brake" feature. I pretty strictly follow the "three second" rule for keeping distance, which I realize not everybody follows, but if you're doing panic stops all time you have to reevaluate how you drive.

Reminds me of a saying I heard from the tv show Justified (and I'll change the phasing to keep it clean for this forum, ha!). "If you run into a jerk in the morning, you ran into a jerk. If you run into jerks all day, you're the jerk."

Not calling anybody a jerk...but the train of thought can roughly be applied to panic braking and driving style.

OP - wondering if you could solve your ride complaints by changing shocks and or springs. Then perhaps you wouldn't risk trading one issue for others that might not be solvable.

I don't really get why people buy a truck based 4x4 and expect a luxurious ride. If you're going to stick to asphalt why don't you pick up a car based CUV? The 4Runner or any off road biased truck based platform will always drive poorly no matter how you mod it. Or even look at sport wagons/hatchbacks.

....In all seriousness, that's really a good mindset to have, just laugh it off when the panic kicks in vs getting mad like I do. The whole thing startles me so much that my reaction is anger and you are right, everything goes flying. Happened to me this week. I'm certain if it ever happened and prevented ,e from having an accident, I would be praising the system but so far, it has been totally unwarranted.

Could it be possible that your brakes are performing abnormally and triggering a panic stop command when you really aren't "panic stopping"?

Are you always over-reacting when applying your brakes, therefore self administering the "Panic Stops"?

I've read and heard that the Full Time 4WD on the Limited gives it a harsh ride. ...

I can understand how you may think the LE's X-REAS may produce a harsh ride since it counters lean and nose dive. Or that the 20" wheels with short tire sidewalls may produce a stiff ride that some find harsh.

But how would the 4WD itself impact the ride?

1st time I hit the brakes hard and think I got some shit on my drawers.... but now if I have to slam the brakes I know it is coming so it really doesnt bother me anymore. Not sure about the older LXs but the new ones do the same thing. When I test drive a vehicle I jam the brakes to see what will happen.... no more poo in the pants for me

I am laughing so hard from reading this. I laugh every time I have the panic breaking happen. I can't help it. Even if I think about it I get to laughing.
