Limited Fender Flare / Cladding Removal and Re-Install

Just back from Yosemite tonight so my response was a bit delayed.

The Toyota part for the rubber piece (and there are about 6 different part #s for rubber pieces) has a adhesive side and a non adhesive side. The sticky side goes on the flare and the plain rubber side sits against the truck body.

Looks great! Ditto on them clips I pain $1.20 ea for the small ones and $2.50 ea for the larger rear ones. Fortunately, we didn't break too many in the removal. We didn't remove any interior paneling to get the rear cladding off, though. Also, the hard rubber molding along the tops Toyota wanted $110 for black pieces. Our solution was a $4.50 giant permanent sharpie on my silver ones. It's held up awesome. No bull though it's an expensive job -

Thanks for posting this. Buying a 97 limited that is missing some flare parts off the bumpers and wondered what it would look like without. I want to line the entire truck (paint has seen better days and it will be a trail truck).

Dang, this thread just reminded me I want to do something similar!

My driver's door flare is cracked and the flapping drives me nuts. I was thinking that I wanted to paint them like CenCali did (I think it was a bedliner black or maybe just a matte black, but the contrast was cool). Do I absolutely have to remove the flares to paint them? I'm guessing the paint would drip if not? Part of me doesn't care that much since it's not my DD and the rest of the paint is thrashed and it really is just a fun off-road camping kind of wagon now.

I am thinking of scavenging some Limited flares from a wreck and putting them on my SR5 which had the little chrome flares that i don't like and took off, and which dug in to the paint. Can't I just silicone them on? Along with screws underneath up into the edge of the body fender that the old flares used to screw into. Why do I need clips?

I don't like all the crap getting kicked up the side of the vehicle.

I'd look for a set of SR5/Highlander/Sport flares or a set of bushwhacker flares. The Limited flares accommodate for the additional lower cladding along the doors, so without that, there would be a gap. Unless you also want to add that, then those flares would be fine.

I was thinking of fiberglassing over that gap. Bushwhacker flares are super expensive. I like the Limited flares except for the lower cladding.

I think the square shape of the bottom of the Limited flares looks a bit odd without the running boards, when compared to the rounded ends of the SR5's. Is that what you prefer? Other than that, I can't really think of any other differences.

The Limited flare over the front wheel has a small extension to match the door cladding. so if you don't have the door cladding, then it will look odd.

I don't want to drill holes in my fenders so hoping I can just glue them on the sides and screw on from underneath.

Been thinking of how that could be done. Screws on the bottom a few more than the factory used. The glue not keen on that, some flexing happens on fenders and Quarter panels. Was thinking more of 3M double sided tape. You could put the tape on tabs where the clips go affix to body. Since you woudn't be using clips you would have to build up the tabs on flares to get that surface tape thickness away from body. Doubt fiberglass will stick to the flare material.

I going to remove my silver flares on my desert dune 4runner and want to color match,i need to get the front and rear fender weatherstrip peices,i found the front,they look to be 5385335090-? But cant seem to find the rear.
Also the colr description for the front say silver b1 or light gray b0
Didnt they make a rare color 4runner with desert dune painted flares?
