List of Tools to have?

I like to try to compile a list of tools that would be great to have:

So far I have collected..

A fluke DMM, Screw drivers, some metric sockets and metric combo wrenchs. Also a set of metric allen keys.

What other tools are key to having on hand? I have a few Pelican cases with recovery gear, fire extinguisher tire repair kit and cheap air compressor which i hope to upgrade to a good ARB unless their is another brand i should look into.

I also have a bunch of fuses, zip ties, sheet metal screws, tubing, electrical tape and duct tape.

That's a good start. Then add tools as you need them over the years.

The only thing I can say...is get a GOOD set of tools. Don't go with junk. Craftsman and Husky are very good tools for the DIYer. Also for sockets make sure to get 1/3, 3/8 and 1/2 socket ratchets.

Check for sales at Sears. Their tool sales are tough to beat.

I do agree on not buying junky tools period. You dont have to buy the best products on the market since you will not be using them on a daily basis. Combo racheting wrenches are worth every penny.

I would definitly buy a high quality meter. Even if you dont use it in your vehicle its good to have around the house. A would buy FLUKE electrical testing tools. I also like Amprobe. I'm a HVAC Tech so i uses these on daily basis.


FLUKE 115 True RMS Digital Multimeter. - Would suggest this brand and model for someone that won't be using the meter on a daily basis. I uses a Fluke 87-V daily and a Amprobe Amp meter.

Proto Combo Racheting Wrenches - I uses these daily and work very well compared to other brands. ( Gear wrench are good also) [PROTO JSCVM-13S Ratcheting Wrench Set, Metric, 12 pt, 13 PC - Amazon.com

Adjustable Wrenches - I uses Bahco brand. They have a wide jaw and are made extremely well. They are priced well and have yet to find a better made adjustable wrench. ( i guess this is why Snap-On bought them up!) I better buy a bunch more before the prices goes up!

I uses Proto Socket sets but their are many other well made brands.

I just wanted to see if others had certain tools they would keep on their rig. I like to make a set i can just keep aboard until its sold for scrap.

I actually went over the differences between quality of tools and testing equipment in the thread Ark linked. If you'd like I could always update it with additional information. (I'm trying to get around to slowly adding more to it, I just haven't had a lot of time to sit down and work on it lately.)
