Background:
This thing started its life with a 22r. when i bought it, it had been sitting for a couple years, and had almost no interior left.
First thing i did was put a 7mge in it and start restoring it. I DD it for 2 years in college while building what i could on it with no money.

Even though its not my DD anymore, my build plan is still to keep this thing as street worthy as possible. I drive all over CO and eastern Utah to wheel and it has always got me home.

How do you like the single 4.7 case? I'm set to put mine in this weekend, got folks telling me that I'm going to miss having a standard low range.

sweet, yea i like it a lot but i think it has a lot to do with your engine. are you running the 22re? with my 7mge i don't really have to shift into 4lo unless i'm crawling, in which case i'm glad to have the 4.7's. but if your running a tired engine, i could see how you'd want a few more gearing options.

It's pretty strong for a 22re, but it's just a placeholder while I figure out what I'm going to replace it with. Probably a 3rz.

sweet rig for sure! im also considering the single 4.7 just cause i dont like the idea of dragging around the extra weight of the second t-case

the 3rz is a solid option. i think you'll be happy with the single T-case. its night and day having the lower gears, and even if you do miss the stock low range sometimes its still worth it, just have to go a little slower

I hear ya on the t-case, the added weight plus the drag from the extra gears your spinning in the 2nd case. I'm not sure how much difference it actually makes, but i drive mine on the highway a lot and can still get 20mpg

if you do make it out this way someday shoot me a pm...im always willing to give rides. If i were a dedicated crawler it wouldnt bother me at all but i use this rig for both and dont want to add anymore weight to the front as im doing my best to try and get the front and back similar in weight.

haha would be nice at times, but i was really going for a reliable, moderate build with this truck. it was my DD for the first 2 years

I used my stock rear springs with a couple leaves added, so 2-2.5" i think it looks like more than that cuz i don't have a huge front bumper sticking out.....yet

will do. i'd love to build a desert truck someday, its crazy to think that you guys have to balance the weight in your truck....like airplanes!

right...even a full tank of gas vs a half or empty tank is noticeable. Pretty scary when your that high in the air for 100+ feet and the truck starts twisting to the tank side and lands on two wheels.

thanks. I (ie a buddy of mine with my assistance) built it 3 years ago so i don't have great pics of the build. its all 2x3 tube. the sides are braced to the frame.

That's almost exactly what I'm planning for a rear bumper, I like it. Simple and sweet.
