LLAMA Tales Thread

LOL

When I add the brackets (gussets) would I have to re-do the entire install or just the top side of the frame bolts.. It looks like they just bolt on to the top side, not the bottom side bolts.

2. Will the bolts get bored from being taken out and put back in?

I dunno man, I think the bolt will be pretty excited since it gets to go in and out so much? Usually bolts just sit there in the same spot all day long don't nothing, I doubt it would be boring for it.

What do you mean by bored? sorry, serious question :)

BTW, looks killer finally mounted on the truck Danny, we need more glamour shots!

HAHA! good one.

That's how little I know about tools.

I meant to stay, will the bolts get stripped from being taken out and back in.

Oh, not at all man, just make sure to start threading it on by hand (this ensures you don't cross thread the bolt with a wrench). You can take it on and off a zillion times and it will be fine. I know you're over there in cali and no snow or rust, but it would be beneficial if you threw on a dab of anti-seize just in case.

Our 4th gen 4Runner guys cant run gussets at all with xreas and we have had no complaints from them. I'd say if your tired of crawling around under your truck take a break, but would certainly suggest getting them on there for the strongest set-up.

Are you saying that the 4th gen's w/ xreas have just the arms supporting the sliders, like the way I installed it?

Looks great Danny!

One thing I wanna see.... the behind the grill light mount with some nice lights mounted up there

PS - Myself and my co-worker are planning a few trips to Ocotillo and Mojave before and after the holidays. You wanna get in on the action?

I want to see some of that more badly than anyone.. I am just trying to figure out how to do it without ripping apart the grill, I don't mind the TE grill.

I might be down for a trip after the Holidays, def no time before.
SOcalTRAIL What do I need to have though to make it out there? Pretty much stock everything (no lift) aside from the tires and sliders.

I'll shoot you a PM when we get something planned. Your truck will do great out there.

Ok, so which bolt am I suppose to use for the gussets?
I'm guessing the taller one.... yes I did read the paper and it said 1 1/4 inch, so i'm guessing the longer one.

The problem is I only received one nut from SW. I'm hoping I can find same size nuts at a local hardware store

Yes you can probably find that at any hardware store...if you are looking for the flanged style nut like in the picture you posted at the top of this page, auto parts stores probably carry that (not sure if I've ever seen flanged nuts at home depot or the likes).

I don't think the bolt length matters, just go under there and stick one through and put a nut on it, and make sure there are a couple of exposed threads after the nut is fully seated :)

PS: while you're getting the nuts grab a couple of washers for both sides if you don't want to scratch the powder coat while cranking the nuts down.

I could provide this type of video chat service, but I might have to charge by the minute.

Danny, those "extra" brackets are the bolt on gussets you opted for. Each gusset is specific to a mounting bracket. I can see in your mounting pictures that there are no gussets installed...

example here from our instructions:

So I have 2 out of the gussets installed.... Mine didn't line up as shown in the photo, though they did line up...

I just want to make sure that I am doing this right before it's too late... Here's what I got so far:

Driver side, rear
