Local dealer won't take lifted 4Runner trade in's

Suspension lifts not sure about spacers. Kind of suprised me since I've seen quite a few pics of lifted trucks that were traded into dealerships so obviously it varies dealership by dealership. Guess I drew the short straw with my local dealership.

I was at the dealership today signing papers on a deal I worked out for my SR5 trade in and happened to mention I was about to install a lift before I got the urge to try another 4Runner and he said they wouldn't have wanted it if I had. :wacko:

Someone about liability issues but you know they talk out of both corners of their mouths lol who knows.

I'm now somewhat jealous of those who's local dealerships will take modified trucks in trade! :hello:

Although I suppose you could always just put the original suspension back in?

Two things I have come to never trust in this world.

1. Anything that bleeds for a week and doesn't die

Joking aside they probably were only looking to take in certified used vehicles so they can profit, and they can't certify Mods. IMO

I know I have recived several letters begging me to trade in my ride.

The dealer in my town installs lifts and since they installed it you get the full factory warranty. My friend traded in his 07 4runner with a lift with no problem at all.

Hard to believe a dealer would put a FACTORY warranty on NON-OEM parts just because they did install...

You will likely get less $$ for a lifted truck, but few dealers will refuse a trade if it means they can make a deal. I know places like carmax don't like modified cars, but even they will at least offer you a sh!t deal and take your old car to auction. In the end, modding does seriously hurt the value of a truck.....you'll be lucky to get kbb value, let alone recoup the cost of the lift.

here is an example of what the dealer in my town does. Lake Havasu City, AZ new 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport V6 Long Bed - Anderson Toyota-Scion, Lake Havasu City, Truck, 4.0L V6 This brand new Tacoma has a toytec lift and big tires. They do this a lot here. My friend bought his new Tacoma here and wanted it lifted. They installed the lift and he has the full factory warranty.

Although I suppose you could always just put the original suspension back in?

And that's why it's best to keep your old parts and do as much of the work you can yourself so if you trade it in you can get it back to at least close to stock .Used lifts and mod parts will usually sell for about 75 cents on the dollar and will only bring in a little more money for the whole vehicle on a private seller sale if someone is looking for a modded one.

But seriously any dealer that I know would take a lifted camel wearing high heels on in a trade if he was going to make money.

I 'd bet that factory warranty is more of a dealer warranty and would only be honored at that dealership. Buy it lifted from them,take it to another dealership with a suspension problem and you would find out real quick that the real factory warranty on the suspension won't be honored.

Some dealers around here do that too and have lifted FJ's and Tacomas right on the showroom floor for way outrageous prices. There was a new taco that was on the dealer floor here for 4 grand over msrp with a spacer lift and big aftermarket wheels and tires that gave me a laugh.

Tires are about the only mod worth anything, including wheels. No matter how cool or good it looks to you it does not look good to 99% of buyers. The tires need to be AT or all season too. No Duratracs or mud tires.

In the desert a stock 4runner or Tacoma does not get you to far off road. There is just not enough ground clearance or approach/ departure angle. The rocks banging off the skid plate and bumpers dragging on rocks do not give you much confidence not lifted. That is why so many otherwise stock vehicles like the Tacoma link I posted, my friends lifted Tacoma and my lifted 4runner are so popular in my area.

It's the same thing here in Oklahoma. But that doesn't mean you won't get screwed when you try and trade it in. And Harper is right, it's almost always a spacer lift and they charge like $1200 plus labor for it. I guess in your example it's a nicer lift, but I guarantee they charged some stupid amount for it.

dealers in Tampa welcome lifted vehicles with open arms. Traded my Tundra and 3 lifted Jeeps in and got top dollar for them... this obviously varies

I think it'd vary depending on the market you're in. If you're in a big city a lifted truck isn't going to have a high resale value, if you're in Texas...well in Texas every redneck has a 12" lift here so your 3" lift is just gonna get tossed in the garbage can later anyway (yes, there's some serious sarcasm in this post)
