Locating a TE in SoCal/San Diego?!

My dealership found one about an hour away and had to go get it. They didn't want to at first, kept trying to sell me a SR5.

took me at least 2 months to find one. most of them went elsewhere. They were rare. For smaller dealers, they have to put in a request for one and whatever comes off the docks, they may or may not get it. Most dealers won't do this unless they know you are committed. I went through the costco program. The sales reps are sometimes better there. but again, hit or miss
Do you have kdss?
When using the Costco program, you still pick it up at a dealer right?

I had test driven one at the dealer in my town, but when I finally decided that is what I wanted it was gone. Since I travel all around northern CA for my work, I started checking dealers in my travels as time permitted.
I found the same thing as you, we don't have the trail edition, or we sold it last night.
After about a month of looking on line at dealer inventories and going there the next day only to find they had already sold it, I finally found one and bought it on the spot. It was even the color that I wanted and had the KDSS and navigation that I wanted.
I am happy.
Just be persistent and keep looking, be willing to search other areas, and if you find what you want, don't wait, buy it.

You might want to try expanding your search. My local delaership says they have three on site for sale and one is the Salsa Red TE..

I was there two weeks ago and they had 6 of them just being delivered. Two Salsa Red, Two Mag Gray, and two black.
Also I am in Las Vegas so what other excuse do you need to come to Vegas.

Got mine from Longo Toyota El Monte back in 2010, biggest dealer in the US I think. On their lot it is a Mag Grey. Mine has KDDS but no Sat Nav , stickered for almost 39k got it for 34,500 plus T&L. They should be able to snag you one.
Did my deal via email, they had it brought to the front for final inspection, wrote the check and left the dealer 40 minutes later.
No effort deal.

Nice, they wouldn't budge on price with me at the time... especially since they didn't have anything on the long and plenty of SR5 & Limited.
Went through the costco web portal and they differed me to the costco dealer reps at each location. Some were the same as standard sales reps, other places had costco special sales agents.
Mine doesn't have kdss, i took the first thing that came in. I wish it had it but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Would have been nice to have but also one more thing to maintain. So I left it to faith and whatever came.
BTW: I ended up going with Glendale, great to work with

I got mine out of pure luck. Had one on order with Mossy Toyota for 2 months and drove by Toyota SD one day and saw the exact truck I had on order, parked in the center of their lot up on a display. They didn't even have the truck in stock for 12 hours yet and already had 3 other people there besides myself looking at it, ready to buy. I snagged it!
