Looking at a 2001 4Runner Limited. With Picture

Hi Guys

I currently have a 2009 Honda Pilot that I love, but its an expensive car payment these days! I love the AWD for the northeast winter...I got thinking about an older reliable truck/SUV that will do me well in the winter and I came across a 2001 4Runner Limited with only 70k on the clock..The asking price is 11,900...Seemed high to me, but the body is in great shape! What do you think? Anything I need to look for before buying? See pic below..

I highly recommend you get it. You won't be sorry. Only 70,000 miles?! That's brand new when it comes to 4runners. These things go FAST, especially when the mileage is so low. So act on it quick.

I picked my 2001 limited last February with 150,000 miles on it and paid 11,200....So ya, I think its a good price.

I love my 4runner and will only buy 4runners for the rest of my life.
 
Another thing, make sure you test drive it a lot. And really get a good feel for it, because it'll be very different from your pilot.
 
This is the exact Runner I have myself. See how much you can talk them down and go from there. Keep an eye out for frame rust and rust forming in the door jambs. I'm hoping you are lucky enough that this one has heated leather seats.... definitely one of the best things I've ever had in a vehicle!

FYI. I gave $9500 for mine last year with exactly 99k on the clock.

Toyota 4Runner History 2000

This site helped me out a lot.

My 4runner was originally from Michigan and it did have some rust on the underside. I got this paint called POR-15 that treats and prevents rust and I brushed it on as many rust spots as I could find. If it has rust, I'm sure you can talk them down a couple hundred.

wow not to thread jack but holy high price! i got mine with 92,000 miles for 7500 last february. LOTS of maintenance done and taken care of unusually well.

EDIT: Its a 2000 millenium silver sr5 sport for reference

thats an amazing deal then.. did you forget to mention your 4k trade in.. lol, thats a wicked price, and i think that the OP's vehicle is fairly priced for the milage, ours are more expensive in canada but my buddy just got his with almost double the miles for 11xxx and it is base sr5, as well as private.

I think 11k even would be very fair for this guy and anything below a steal.. my $.02

Sorry dude but you were ripped off. $8000 is a fairer price for a 4Runner w/ 150k miles.

I bet it is all original as well. You will easily have $3000 is maintenance by the time you hit 225k miles, assuming you take it somewhere for the work.

OP, those low miles are good but the price is still pretty high.

It was exactly at Blue Book value. And I forgot to mention that the price of my 4runner was 10,500 but after tax, license blah blah it totaled to 11,200. It was at a dealership. I didn't get ripped off. 3rd gen 4runners sell extremely fast in my area. It took me over a year and a half to find the right 4runner, many times I was close to buying another one but was too late. I definitely didn't get a good deal, and I definitely didn't get ripped off. I paid exactly what it was worth.

I would worry too. Just because the engine has low miles, doesn't mean the rest does. If it has been outside its whole life, then a lot of it is going to need as much work as one with 200k miles.
 
I don't know about prices there, but it seems pretty high to me. I just bought a 2002 Limited, 144K, full dealer maint records (3K-5K mile oil changes, every suggested maint done), heated seats, one-owner, great shape, from a used dealer lot for $8K.

Around here 2001-2002 Limiteds seem to go for $9000-10,500 max.

So I drove the 4Runner and WOW...very different than the Pilot. It was....trucky... but not bad. It felt a little wobbley in the steering wheel? New tires, but maybe it needed an alignment? It went away after I sped up, but not nearly as smooth as the Pilot. It felt nice though...sunroof, heated seats and mirrors...working AC. It looks like a blast to drive in the winter! Whats not too like...How are they on long trips? I was able to talk them down to 10k even as well...What do you guys think?
 
Damn ... that's a nice rig. I don't know why you are wasting time asking us when you should be out driving that sweet new T4R!!! Buy it already .... and then prepare to spend MUCH MORE modifying then you ever spent on your Honda Pilot monthly payment .. lol
